i'm pretty sure in any other profession (okay, except politics!) if someone assaults someone physically, threatens them verbally, they would not be able to find ANY WORK ANYWHERE with that in their background check?...

He can be nominated, but in reality, he probably won't. He can't even telecast in. The Academy isn't going to like a star that can't show up, the studios aren't going to like a star that can't be seen at the Oscars, etc.... Also the Oscar voters tide, and the Oscar Board of Governors were mostly in the Rock camp, so....

Also, he's on the same banished list as Weinstein, Cosby, and Roman Polanski, so it's a hard one to live down. They banned Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins for simply being political during the show for a few years, so they're not going to let a slap off easy.

I don't see any studio excecs putting their careers on the line to cast Will in a starring role for a big budget film. 

If it cost $100 million to produce and market a film, these studios don't make a dime till they cover those costs.  They need home runs.  Who's willing to gamble their career Will can still hit box office home runs after this?

It took the same Academy 40 years to ban Roman Polanski after he was convicted of raping a child.

Weinstein, Cosby, and Polanski are on the permabanned list, they just did it quietly in 2017 and 2018. Another guy named Carmine Caridi was banned for selling Oscar screeners that bootleggers then copied. If you ever watched NYPD Blue, he was Vince, the old white haired union delegate detective on the show.

There are a couple of others too, but they are behind the scenes guys. Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and Tim Robbins were banned for a  little while for promoting political causes on stage, but let back after a few years.
