Sandy Munro who worked for over forty years in the auto industry sat in on a design review at Tesla with Elon and he said you would never have seen a CEO from the big three participating.  It doesn't matter how good of an engineer he is, he bothers to spend time with the engineering department to understand what they're doing.  Right there he's better than the other American CEO's.

As far as how good an engineer he is, Tesla wouldn't be doing large die casting if he didn't understand it and appreciate the benefit.  That goes for structural battery packs and 4680 batteries.

When Tesla opens a new plant or starts production of a new model, Elon lives on site.  What other CEO would do that.

your first anecdote is an example of his marketing skills and looks like you swallowed it hook, line, and sinker

your second anecdote - sure it would, if thats what his engineering team called for.  he's not an engineer anymore than he is a physician or a plumber - he went to school for econ and physics.

as to your third anecdote - is that supposed to be a good thing?  who cares if he's on site or not, effective managers delegate to their subordinates instead of attempting to manage everything themselves.

He is often ridiculed by experts in their fields for speaking out like he is an authority on a subject. If challenged he lashes out (obviously he is a getbigger) The cave incident is one famous example and there are many more amongst engineers and developers.

He is however a brilliant strategist and sociopath. I say the latter with the greatest of respects as it's not always a bad thing.

How is sitting in an engineering design review and participating an example of marketing?

You don't need to have an engineering degree to understand engineering concepts.  Chrysler didn't have an engineering degree and neither did Ford and Ford was a practicing engineer.  If Elon wanted an engineering degree it would be a piece of cake.  I believe he was in a masters program at Stanford before he dropped out to start pay pal.  Academically he's a superstar.

He's not attempting to manage everything, he's being hands on.  Many of his managers would probably prefer he was not, but tough shit, he's the boss.

The shareholders can have the board of directors get rid of him when every they want.  They don't seem inclined to do that.
Shareholders seem quite pleased with Elon's  performance.

Elon believes artificial intelligence is the future.

You have to feed AI data to develop it.

Facebook/YouTube/Google/etc. Make $$$$$ selling your data to advertisers and other companies.

Elon just got access to one of the biggest databases in the world of your data, patterns, thoughts. It is also data from multiple countries in many different languages.

But nevermind that,he is doing all of this because he cares about your freedom of speech right trumptards?

You don't need to have an engineering degree to understand engineering concepts.

Most engineers barely understand the concepts of actual design. As many engineering degrees force you into a silo and you only understand a very small area of your field.

I'm a structural engineer and i understand mechanics more than most mechanical engineers, only because i worked in that area of expertise for 6 years.

You don't need a degree to be an engineer.

Some of the best engineers i've worked with learned on the job.

My engineering degree taught me about 5% of what i know today.

Being able to calculate and design something very complicated is much different than understanding how it works.

I think Elon understands plenty to give feedback and a path forward.

I have an engineering degree too.

When Elon was in college he never went to class he just did the readings took the test and got all A's.  I wasn't that kind of a student.  I liked to attend lectures because if felt that's what I was paying for.

I think any engineer can appreciate Elon is running Tesla very differently than most companies.  Engineering dictates the design, not the accountants like in most car companies.

When Sandy took apart the model S and model Y they were so different from earlier versions, most companies would have made the completely new models, but Tesla didn't meaning they spared no expense on engineering.

Any engineer can appreciate how well Tesla's are engineered.

Very true.

I typically learn better by practicing. So i had to study a lot.

I'm a big fan of Elon and what he has done.

He's the type of person we need to see more of.

You can tell from his interviews that he truly understands what is going on.

He's not just the company spokesman like most CEO's of large companies.

Mayday

He’s in it for a number of reasons but don’t discount major social platforms are filled with bots, scammers and identity threft.

There is absolutely are growing need/want for a human only social media subscription platform where your identity is known. People won’t anywhere near as crazy when it’s the ‘real’ you being seen on display. .

They are taking away free speech regardless if they know your identity or not. Trump was banned from Twitter.

It’s a catch 22.

Keep identity hidden = bots and scammers will create more traffic load than actual real identities.

Show identity = bots and scammers are wiped out, downside is you can’t act like an anonymous spastic.

It’s really not anything that crazy. Go on LinkedIn and the behaviour is the polar opposite to Twitter.

A Getbig favourite term is  ‘soggy queer’ which I highly doubt anyone would say on LinkedIn. There will still be underground social media like Getbig with unmoderated forums. I don’t use social media very much at all so it’s not like I care on way or the other but I think online anonymity has only proven to lead humanity down the path where we hate on each other. Post a video of a fluffy puppy and 5% will dislike it….. WTf?

He used some creative financing using his Tesla shares as collateral and got other investors.  He sees the potential of the company and plans to transform it to take on the other internet titans then have an IPO.  The whole deal will be hugely profitable for Elon in the end.  Free speech was part of it, but in the end this company will be a hugely profitable decision.  ;)

Elon Musk says he will allow Trump back on Twitter
The new owner plans to reverse the "morally bad decision" to ban the former president

Billionaire and newly-minted owner of Twitter Elon Musk has said that after the acquisition is completed he will reverse the social media giant’s ban on former US President Donald Trump, who was exiled from the platform following the January 6 riot at the Capitol. Musk made the comment virtually on Tuesday at the Financial Times’ Future of the Car event.

“I think it was a morally bad decision, to be clear. And foolish in the extreme,” Musk said, calling it a “mistake” that “alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.” Far from censoring the president, he pointed out, the “morally wrong and flat-out stupid” move by Twitter actually amplified his voice among the political right.

The comment came just days after a San Francisco judge threw out the former president’s lawsuit against Twitter, whom he had accused of violating his First Amendment rights by working as a state actor on behalf of the Democratic Party.

Trump was banned almost simultaneously from Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and other ‘mainstream’ social media platforms while still in office, supposedly out of concern that his tweets about alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election would pose the “risk of further incitement of violence.”

Musk reached an agreement to purchase Twitter last month for $44 billion, a move some users on the platform believe will herald a return to the days of more open discussion, given the Tesla tycoon’s self-professed status as a “free speech absolutist.” However, he has reassured worried governments he has no intention to violate any laws that may be passed restricting speech on the social network.

Trump previously insisted he would not return to Twitter even if his account, which had some 89 million followers, was reinstated, claiming he would instead stick to his own Truth Social platform.

The liberal shitbags on Twitter are going apeshit over this. You want more proof they’re against the First Amendment, look no further than there
