Disneyland
« on: April 19, 2022, 02:24:09 AM »
Hi, serious question for getbiggers with young kids.
I’m heading over to Europe next year and for the first time will be travelling with my three year old twins. Wondering if worth it to do a stopover for a couple of days and take them to Disneyland. I’ve never been so just asking particularly those of you who may have been recently and those of you that have little ones now or in the not too distant past. Apart from anything else I’m just not sure if maybe they'll be too young to really enjoy it and also it will be quite a stopover so would have to be worth it.
Much appreciate some help in typical getbig fashion.
Should add Im flying from New Zealand so its going to be a very long haul.

My kids enjoyed it, but I would not bring my youngest daughter there, given how woke Disney has become.

Otherwise, I would say yes - it was worth it.

I just won't support Disney ever again given how they are behaving.

I don't know anything about the EU version of Disney, but just keep expectations low with kids that age and be ready to go if they start to melt.  It's a crapshoot at young ages like that - can be awesome, or they can melt fast if they get a bit overwhelmed.

A lot of times parents get bummed when they commit the $ to something like that and the kids can't handle it for too long.

At 3, they will be limited on rides for sure, but they might like the characters and stuff.

Given what it costs, I think three years old is too young for it to be meaningful.  I would skip it.  At that age you can entertain them for a lot less with more simple pleasures: a cartoon, stuffed animals, a visit to the zoo, a bird sanctuary, a normal playground, the beach, etc.  As mentioned above their attention spans may be too short to appreciate the breadth of a Disney theme park.  Few things are more annoying than spending (a lot of) money on something only to have the kid(s) not appreciate it: falling asleep, not eating the food you let them order at a restaurant, taking one sip of the beverage you bought them, etc.

If you really want to do something for them at this age… make them watch their favorite cartoons in a foreign language including subtitles (Disney+). They already love to watch those ‘toons over and over; they already know the story/script; they can learn another language with virtually zero effort from 1-4 years old.  The window for doing this with no effort is very small; your kids are in that window… if you commit to this by the time they are six or seven they could be fluent in 2-4 languages.

The desire to entertain children should automatically exclude you from doing it

I used to really enjoy going to Disneyland and I even had a Disney Plus account for a while.  Unfortunately, Disney is another thing that I've had to drop like a bad habit.  The list is getting long and may they all go bankrupt.

They think that I need em' but I don't.

Thanking you kindly gents. Much appreciated. Think Ill give it a miss this time as they still at that age where just toddling round with a box on their heads is a good hour of being robots. Will do the foreign language thing too, they sure are sponges when it comes to learning new stuff. Now back to my favouite soap opera. Days of our Bhanky…

Totally agree. 3 is way to young and they will never remember it. 5 or 6 is a great age to take them. I went to Disney World with my family for a week and youngest granddaughter was 5. She had so fun and I think she will remember it for a while. Her sister remembered when we took her at 5 as well.
