Survey of 2,385 Steroid Users
« on: April 21, 2022, 12:49:15 AM »

Steroid users usually don't tell you they're taking steroids. Generally, they'd sooner confess to being cheaters, thieves, or even thumb suckers than admit that their hulking physiques are the consequence of anything other than hard work and significant nutrition knowledge.

They won't even inform their physicians because they don't want to be chastised by some pushover knucklehead who can't even bench press his own bodyweight, ha.

There appears to be one way to circumvent the secrecy surrounding steroid users: do an anonymous online study/survey, which is exactly what several Wake Forest University endocrinologists did. The outcome was the most comprehensive study of steroid users ever conducted.

The study, which took place between August 2019 and August 2020, included 2385 men. The average age of all participants was 31, and just over half of the participants were from the United States.

Here's a rundown of what they discovered:
AGE BREAKDOWN OF STEROID USERS
Age 18-21: 12.91%
Age 22-30: 42.85%
Age 31-40: 24.49%
Age 41-50: 14.13%
Age 51-Plus: 5.62%

REASONS FOR CONSUMING ANABOLIC STEROIDS
The most common reasons for using steroids were to boost appearance (82.2%) and strength (50%). Self-esteem and body image concerns were also high on the list (29.87 percent ).
Surprisingly, less than 10% of those polled admitted to using steroids to increase athletic performance.

Men over 35 were less likely than younger men to use steroids for body image difficulties, strength-building, or even bodybuilding competitions (20.2 percent vs. 41.9 percent), which raises the question: what the hell were the older-than-35 males using them for?

THE MOST COMMON STEROIDS
The most popular steroids were testosterone enanthate and testosterone cypionate, very definitely because they're the most readily available. Here’s a rundown of the top ten steroids used:
1. Testosterone Enanthate
2. Testosterone Cypionate
3. Methandrostenolone
4. Trenbolone
5. Oxandrolone
6. Nandrolone Decanoate
7. Equipoise
8. Testosterone Propionate
9. Stanozolol
10. Sustanon 250

You can find all of these steroids available at Naps Gear (napsgear.org), who has the largest selection of brands across any online pharmacy.
And here were the most common weekly doses:
• Less Than 500 mg – 46%
• 501-1000 mg – 47.46%
• 1001-2000 mg – 5.49%
• 2001- 3000 mg – 0.75%
• 3001- 4000 mg – 0.17%
• Over 5001 mg – 0.08%
• 4001 – 5000 mg – 0.04%

SUPPLEMENTAL DRUGS MOST COMMONLY USED
The most prevalent supplemental drugs during a cycle were anastrozole, also known as Arimidex (47.61 percent) and tamoxifen (31.12 percent), followed by exemestane (30.16 percent) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) (28.61 percent ).

Tamoxifen (40.23 percent), clomiphene citrate (31.63 percent), and hCG were the most regularly utilized off-cycle supplemental medications (25.59 percent ).

Surprisingly, just 45.93 percent of those polled cycled at all. The majority of people (47.21 percent) said they used it on a regular basis.

SIDE EFFECTS MOST COMMONLY REPORTED
Over 94% of participants reported adverse effects:
Testicular Atrophy – 62.94%
Hypersexuality – 50.69%
Hypertension – 43.44%
Mood Changes – 42.64%
Erectile Dysfunction – 32.96%
Dyslipidemia (abnormal blood fats) – 27.97%
Gynecomastia – 26.08%

Some symptoms were more common in users above the age of 35:

Dyslipidemia (lipid imbalance) – 32.91% vs. 25.88%
Hair Loss – 27.12% vs. 20.69%
Tendon Rupture – 9.89% vs. 6.92%
Left Ventricular Hypertrophy – 6.64% vs. 2.92%
Infertility – 9.82% vs. 6.92%
Injection Site Abscess – 12.43% vs. 8.05%
Polycythemia (increase in number of red blood cells) – 20.9% vs. 9.0%

REASONS THEY DIDN’T QUIT
While 46.2 percent attempted to stop using anabolic steroids at some point, more than 60 percent returned to utilizing them.

This was true even after a long time of abstinence, as 44.8 percent of individuals who had abstained for a year and 20.8 percent of those who had abstained for three years started using again.

Concerns about lower quality of life (48.93 percent), muscle loss/worsened look (39.3 percent), decreased strength/athletic performance (33.5 percent), and, tragically, lack of medical care were among the reasons for not quitting (14.21 percent ).

Surprisingly, 74.7 percent believed they could continue to use steroids without harming their health, but 86.7 percent said they would stop if they developed a health concern as a result of using steroids.

WHO DO THEY SEEK ADVICE FROM?
Internet steroid gurus were nearly widely regarded as far more trustworthy sources of knowledge than doctors. In reality, doctors ranked last in terms of anabolic steroid knowledge, with steroid coaches/gurus, bodybuilding websites, and other steroid users faring better.

ARE THEY EVEN INFORMING THEIR DOCTORS?
Over half of users don't inform their doctors about their steroid use for fear of being stigmatized and not being treated correctly. And 55.3 percent of those who did tell their doctors discovered that they were correct - their doctors did stigmatize them and treat them unfairly. That's how it goes.

WHAT THE RESEARCHERS LEARNED
While the study's authors believe that more trials are needed, the current study found that the widespread skepticism of health-care practitioners will make recruitment for such studies increasingly challenging.

They did, however, recognize as a starting step that medical education should emphasize the need of treating these patients with an informed, nonjudgmental, and harm-mitigation attitude. To enable successful harm reduction and AAS cessation, a multidisciplinary strategy involving medical doctors, addiction support groups, and behavioral health specialists is required.

If you decide that you want to start using steroids as well, make sure that you do plenty of research and buy only from a reputable source. NapsGear.org is the most trusted online pharmacy where you can get every pharmaceutical you need for your cycle, cycle support, HGH, pre-designed stacks, and more.

Interesting.

I myself am thinking about a cycle - but I've been extreme risk-averse lately.

Training is going extremely well. If I get my overhead press to 100-lb dumbbells, I would. Maybe I would anyway. But it would be nice to be as strong as possible going in. I think I got 105's for 2-3 once. Would be great to get the 120's overhead. I'm confident I have never done that.

So WHY DO men over 35 do steroids, if not for the usual reasons?

Also, what percentage of men do them? I heard 5% of college-aged students do them.

Most won't inform their doctors because they immediately look at them like the user is mentally impaired.

Overhead pressing is good for your shoulders.  It works the complete shoulder.

Excessive bench and incline pressing is bad for your shoulders.  They over-stress the front deltoid and ignore the rest of the shoulder.

You are one strong dude, Matt.  No need to take steroids.

Train for whatever is your goal.  If it's looks then train like a bodybuilder to look like a bodybuilder.

If it's strength then you obviously know how to do that.

Over-age 35 men take steroids because they are insecure about themselves.  This is the true #1 reason the majority of men take steroids.
The majority of men do not compete in bodybuilding or lifting competitions.

Seen many people get turned down for life-insurance by telling their Doc, so probably not best to tell them anything.
Plus, nothing is private, they farm out the "Dr. report" typing to anyone (my wife does it) see people we know all the time come up right in our house.

"Bill Johnson from High School was in today for getting a cuke stuck in his grommet" (Stuff like that).

Some are blessed with favourable acromion anatomy, others don't:

A curved or hooked acromion will cause friction and inflamation overtime.

I had the pleasure on competing with Doug Brignole at the 2011 Masters Nationals .....really nice guy.

We shot the shit about how he went up against Jeff King in the Mr. America, and touched a bit on training.....very knowledable guy IMO.
