It is rumored McMahon  signed ferrigno to a 500000 per year deal but after drug testing got put in ferrigno opted out I also believe ferrigno was in a car accident around this time or had some injuries where he could not train his upper body I could be wrong though

Per an IronMan article I read years ago, the dollar amount was $450,000. Ferrigno mentioned in an interview for American Muscle that he had carpal tunnel syndrome and had to have his wrists repaired.

The drug-testing of the WBF seems to send Big Lou packing; and, as mentioned earlier, McMahon tried to use Lex Luger as a replacement.

Vince wouldn't pay Lou $20 for his signature on the contract.

He paid a lot more than that for this appearance.

Lou has a real naturally rehearsed charisma.

The interview was awful.

That seems about right Sean moony said Gary strydom was getting 400 k per year plus the purse he got for winning the wbf show he was making way more than anyone in the ifbb

LOL that ringer studio audience of 85 people had the male crowd in suits and ties with one mark in jorts, and Louie is talking about beating and surpassing Arnold. As if anyone in attendance had a clue what he was talking about.

That was so campy. So cringe worthy.

The storylines that went along with the bodybuilders were so bad. Wasnt there was a skit where Gary Strydom was talking to gang members? And Quinn was just plain fucking fat. Just a fat guy in a thong running around a stage and yelling at the audience. Hilarious. How many shows total did they do? 2?

Yep. And M. Quinn's not-so-might performance was in the second one. His first one was much better.

Mike might have had the worst contest of any pro ever at that 2nd contest in WBF. He blamed Dr. Di Pasquale's anabolic diet for his fat condition but it was really the result of drug testing.

All of them got tested. But not all of them did DiPasquale's diet. I just finished watching a "Monday Night Muscle" podcast with "The Dark Angel" Aaron Baker as the guest. When Chicherillo asked Baker about that, Baker humorously quipped that the reason he placed 3rd in that final WBF championship is because he didn't follow that "anabolic diet".

Here's Baker's pro debut - 17:43 (again, since this is from BodyStars, Vince McMahon is doing the voiceover with Tom Platz; McMahon didn't do commentary on the Coliseum Home Video/live version).

It was also brought up that Baker won the USA in 1990, the year the NPC tested all of their pro qualifiers. That would also include Jim Quinn who won the North American title that year. Jim Quinn stated he didn't follow that diet either, during an interview with MuscleMag International.

When the interview asked, point blank, whether he and Strydom were actually tested for that show, "The Future" stated that they were. But, they were each nearly 300-lbs when the testing started; so they had muscle to spare. Plus, since they didn't follow DiPasquale's diet (and Quinn knew how to prepare, given his experience in 1990), they still had enough size to look decent despite neither man being quite as big as he was in 1991.

I just listened to the the Legends of Bodybuilding (Jon Hansen's show) when he interviewed Mike Quinn.

There was some fairly entertaining moments. Among other thing he said Gary Strydom lives in Thailand because he's a pedophile.  He said Dennis Tinnerino went to prison for pimping out bodybuilders because he took the fall for Arnold.

But as far as wbf... he said his last Olympia was tge drug tested Olympia. The next year he went to the wbf which was drug tested and the following year he was drug tested for the wbf. So basically he was drug tested 3 years straight and thats why he looked worse and worse. For tge last wbf show when he was way out of shape he said he took lasix and got sick had to go to the emergency room then went straight to the show.

Lastly he talks about his 1994 condition where he looked really good. He talked alot about how much more drugs the pros were using and although he got huge and was competitive he believes that one year caused him health problems and went on to basically predict that alot of pros would be dying in the next few years...the interview was in 2015.

Did he mention anything about the dangers of bb combined with the covid vaccination?

He definitely speaks his mind. He always seemed to hate Strydom back in the day as well.

Looking at these videos from 1992 makes me feel like a kid (or at least in my late teens) all over again. Plus, some of these guys (Tony Pearson, in particular) looked much bigger than I thought they were.

I guess, because I saw the WBF guys on TV week after week, they didn't quite have the wow factor that seeing the IFBB guys once every 3 months or so on American Muscle did.

Gary Strydom looks UNREAL during his chest training. Whoever claimed that the placings (at least in the first show) was just about salaries might want to reconsider. Who else could have beaten Strydom in that lineup? Troy "Zuke" Zuccolotto reportedly got more money than "The Future" Jim Quinn. Yet, Quinn placed 4th and 2nd at the '91 and '92 show respectively; whereas the Zuke never even sniffed the top 5.

Plus, the WBF shows had all former bodybuilders as their judges, a fact that one of the them (former mixed pairs champion, Tina Plakinger) emphasized in an article where she criticized the IFBB.

She claimed when she went to see an IFBB show, they virtually treated her like a leper, because she was of the WBF Championship judges. I don't think former Mr Olympia, Chris Dickerson (another judge from the 1991), nor head judge and former Mr. Universe Dave Draper, got the same business.

Did you hear that a certain 6-time Mr. O almost joined the WBF? He claimed he got offered $175K a year. Platz really went after him. He asked his then-wife what he should do, since he was (per his words) "living in the ghetto" and only got 12 grand for his first pro win, a good hunk of which he had to spend just to get home. She left it up to him; and he may have joined has she given him the green light; But Mrs. said it was his call.

This dude felt he was close to winning the O and felt that, if the WBF was going to be "pre-determined" and too gimmicky, he couldn't join the federation.

Despite Platz's best efforts, that gentleman declined the offer.

Yes, and when Dorian Yates won his 1st Olympia, Tom
Platz called Yates and congratulated him.

That's when the IFBB FINALLY upped the first prize to $100,000, the same amount Strydom got for each of his WBF titles.

Haney only got $80,000 for the Olympia in 1991.

Bret Hart completely discredited himself when he said that Lex Luger was steroid-free

Hart said Luger was considerably smaller than he was in WCW. That's no surprise. Look what happened to the Ultimate Warrior in 1992.

But, even a smaller Lex Luger was bigger than nearly all of the WBF pros. Again, I never saw an episode of BodyStars where he stood next to Jim Quinn or Gary Strydom.

It cost him a good portion of his $12k to get home? Where was he coming from when he won? Were trans Atlantic flights thousands of dollars in the 90s?

Probably New York. I wouldn't be surprised if it cost a fortune for Yates to travel across the Atlantic 30 years ago.

Platz was probably using codespeak for drugs. It was probably 12k for Dorian's stack.

That wasn't Platz. It was Yates himself. He talked about how little money he got for winning NOC in 1991 and how much of it got spent almost immediately after he won it.

He was really torn at one point, as Platz was one of his heroes. And that money sounded sweet. He talked about being to get a house, moved into a better neighborhood, etc.

But, at least Shawn Ray can't complain about how his training partner, the Zuke (who hadn't even competed as a pro, prior to the WBF championship), got offered more money than he did despite Ray's placing 3rd at the 1990 Olympia.

Back to BodyStars, check out WBF Champion Gary Strydom and his chest routine. He looked incredible....1:15

For all the talk about mass monsters, particularly from the 90s, Strydom rarely gets mentioned. I don't see why. He was enormous!!!
