Need to Press?

I agree with this video and the comments about some having weak rear delts. For that 3 -D look work rear delts !

I’ve always been a big overhead presser and thought it did a lot for shoulders but as I get older I do less pressing overhead and focus on laterals and have always done a ton of rear delt work and I feel those two do more for the look of the shoulders.

You don't need to squat or press or deadlift to be a bodybuilder.

To be a bodybuilder you only need to do isolation exercises.

Compound moves are not necessary.

To be strong is another matter.

I used to love front Barbell press but with incline Benches itīs overkill on my joints. Side , rear raises, shrugs ..thatīs it. sometimes wide grip upright rows for side delts

Everything that prevents your rotator cuff to tear is a good investment.

Bigger rear delts seem to push the medial delts forward and out a bit, they definitely make them look bigger, especially from the side and even from the front.  Not to mention the beneficial effects on shoulder health

the delts raise the arms horizontal, they are not designed to push over your head

Fucks sake read an anatomy book and look at the insertion points

Yeah.. inclines or Dips really hit delts. I know one idiot who still does behind the neck press on the smith machine.  ??? ::)

Trivia...

People that do only bench press are weak overhead pressers.  Benching does not carry over well to overhead pressing.

However, good overhead pressers are usually decent bench pressers.

Benching was used as an assistance exercise by oly lifters many years ago to strengthen the triceps for pressing.

Strongmen concentrate on overhead pressing since it is a big part of the sport.

Bodybuilding is about looks, not strength so machines and isolation movements are adequate.

Many incredibly strong Oly lifters look like they never trained, especially since the press was discontinued.

Yeah i know all this but the simple fact is the shoulders are in a poor mechanical position in the overhead press. Not saying people have not got strong on using OHP.

Wrong.

You are parroting what you read on the interwebs.

Flat bench pressing is a shoulder wrecker if overdone.

Overhead pressing develops a balanced shoulder girdle.

any excercise overdone is a wrecker "overdone" being the key word.

Flat benching has wrecked more shoulders than any other exercise.

bearing in mind the body is designed to pushs away from itself, including the floor if you fall over then the only way bench press would ruin shoulders is fuckwits using way too much weight

as I said before the shoulder structure isnt designed to lift things overhead, we have no need to do it in nature

Of course we need to lift things overhead.

Man has been lifting things overhead for his entire existence.

How do you think man has built things?

People that bench a lot get rounded over shoulders from excessive front delt work.

The preponderence of rotator cuff injuries with weight trainers did not occur until the flat bench press became popular.

The creation of new exercises to "cure" bench press injuries is a result of rotator cuff problems due to flat benching.

Do any exercise 1 000s of times over years with the over load principle..adding weight then of course there is wear & tear in the joints. Look at old people hip replacements & most never used a gym. I know a guy who is around 50 & has had both hips replaced. Is he a bodybuilder...nope a runner. :)
