Of course we need to lift things overhead.

Man has been lifting things overhead for his entire existence.

How do you think man has built things?

People that bench a lot get rounded over shoulders from excessive front delt work.

The preponderence of rotator cuff injuries with weight trainers did not occur until the flat bench press became popular.

The creation of new exercises to "cure" bench press injuries is a result of rotator cuff problems due to flat benching.
Look at the anatomy of the shoulder joint. Look at its range of motion & then look at the position in an overhead press . The Behind the neck press is really at the very limit of the joint, add weight...impingment waiting to happen.

I actually used to love doing seated machine presses for shoulders. Itīs just (for me) along with incline BB press too much for my shoulders.  :'(

Doing them all on the same day is a lot for the shoulders.

Yeah.. inclines or Dips really hit delts. I know one idiot who still does behind the neck press on the smith machine.  ??? ::)

light, limited range of motion behind-the-neck presses are a great delt exercise.  Upper arm shouldnt go past parallel w the ground (so about  level w the ears) and don't lockout to keep the tension on the delts.

I get a great pump w these, way more than I ever did w overhead press but I make no claims about safety.

no he hasnt, we have the same shoulder anatomy as apes, he started walking upright but our shoulders remained the same
We pull towards ourselves we push things away, we also use our back to climb und pull things downwards

Go watch apes in the wild, they almost never lift things over their heads

Do any exercise 1 000s of times over years with the over load principle..adding weight then of course there is wear & tear in the joints. Look at old people hip replacements & most never used a gym. I know a guy who is around 50 & has had both hips replaced. Is he a bodybuilder...nope a runner. :)

Simple truth posted here.

Can see it in certain jobs. Painters for example. I know a few who have had or have problems as they have to paint overhead for relatively long periods. Now a monkey or ape might pick some berries off a branch but not for hours like a painter. here is the problem. Gravity plays a role too.

We've met?  Had no idea.

I like 'em too, they actually helped to open back up my frozen/scarred shoulders and improved all of my pressing movements (bench, etc).
Very slow/controlled negative of course, and only go as low as what feels good. Back of the head, mid-level, etc.

lifting or working overhead goes against gravity. think about it. Raise your arm overhead & with a weight you are increasing gravity pulling against you 100 plus times. Itīs logical . arms lower is simply less stress for your neck, shoulders.

Yeah but depending on your arm position it can be harder or lighter same as a lever.

If you need to press your luck, or see someone else pressing their luck, the Bhanky threads are the place to be  ;D

I got the idea watching a Mike Libratore(sp) video years ago. I agree with you 100%. Haven't tweaked or strained anything since switching to these.

I still do Seated Bradford Presses, they feel great and I get a great pump.

To each his own.
