Canelo vs Bivol
« on: May 02, 2022, 04:50:33 PM »
This might be the weekend the Canelo train gets derailed.  Even if temporarily.  Bivol is no joke and probably the best light heavyweight out there.  Beterbiev is more menacing and what not but Bivol has a lot more athleticism and is younger.  I'll predict Canelo gets a somewhat controversial decision victory this weekend.

Do you mean Usyk rather than Povetkin?  Also, Canelo not stepping up to fight the 1st or 2nd best heavyweight is not a duck or a miss.

I remember Trinidad rampaging through middleweights until he boxed Hopkins.  I really respected his ambition.

Same with Canelo.  If he finally meets a brick wall, so be it – it’s been a great run.

Agreed. He dares to be great. Much like Manny used to do.

But on a comparison scale that would be like asking Sugar Ray Robinson to fight and beat Joe Louis.

Bivol is highly skilled. Steady but unspectacular.  Im not sure how much better he is than Kovalev was, whose skill was underrated, and canelo did very well against kovalev.

Ive been waiting for canelo to lose for years. I thought lara beat him and I thought the GGG fight were split. But regardless Canelo has been competing at a high level for years and keeps getting better. His power actually improved as he moved up in weight which is highly unusual.

Bivol has one gear and is content to do just enough to control the round and never step on the gas. I have a feeling the early rds will be close but favor bivol. Somewhere around rd. 5 Canelo will start to figure him out then pull away on the score cards. Canelo by close decision.

I thought Kovalev had won more rounds than Canelo at the time of the stoppage.  I think part of that was Canelo was a little sluggish carrying 175 for the 1st time.  I feel as though he's gotten better since then and expect him to be better at 175 this time.  That being said, Kovalev while not shot definitely didn't have the punch resistance he once did.  At this point, it's clear to me that Bivol is a better fighter now than Kovalev was then.  I expect a really close fight.  If Canelo destroys Bivol then to me he is one win away (Beterbiev) from claiming greatest Mexican fighter of all time.  My official prediction is that Canelo gets the nod via decision in a fight many think Bivol deserved to win.  Plus, Canelo has to have an off night sooner or later, right?

Agree with all of your points. Especially about the odds of Canelo having an off night. Dude's been at the top for 10 years now, has close to 60 fights with probably 10 or 15 being championship fights. At some point his train has to slow down and if that night comes against Bivol it could be a long night for Canelo.

I was a long time Canelo hater. Im certain he uses peds. Early in his career he handpicked all of his opponents, he benefits from rvery close decision...But I had to admit: the guy is really fucking good.

I hate Canelo but I do have to begrudgingly respect the challenges he takes on. He just has to be on some fucking amazing designer steroids - same as Pacroid was. Still, hope he gets knocked out.

Canelo literally couldn't stop Angulo and Chavez Jr, both burnouts, at 154-160, get pieced up by FMW and Lara and has to fight a negative fight vs GGG I while in a tooth and nail fight vs small Cotto but he puts on 20lbs on a 5'7.5 frame and is more cut than the natural 175 fighters while his trainer is running around talking about he has waivers while 3 fighters including Canelo and another fighter ends up in the hospital are popping hot but Canelo is somehow the best p4p fighter right now.  FOH with that Mexican bullshit!

Valdez is also a Reynoso, Trainer of the Year PEDs,  fighter and Canelo gym fighter.  Yeah, he fared real vs. Shakar in a blowout Saturday night.

You can pretty much say Crawford is undisputed at 135 along with 140 and if Spence wasn't a bitch he'd be undisputed right now at 147.  Can Charlo or Castiano beat Crawford in an undisputed vs undisputed clash? That's 4 divisions with no bullshit coming out of his gym.  But his progress is being blocked by Al Haymon who kissed Canelo's ass and give him Sweet Cheeks Plant for undisputed. Now, put him on the shit Canelo is on. He jumps 2 weight classes and stops GGG at 160.

Don't think I've seen a fighter more fraudulent than Canelo ever.

Agreed.

I have Canelo winning by KO/TKO in the last 2 rounds or by a split decision.

Those first 5/6 rounds are going to be close.

I couldn't get a link, but this channel is dropping each round as I type.
Canelo spent too much time trying to counter, and Bivol was active enough to keep backing up Canelo.

A good night for boxing.

Abe- I think your analysis was most accurate or at least  closest to reality.  Bivol had an easy time Alvarez. Bivol isn't very creative.  He's just good. Not great in any one area but good in each and every area.

Im actually quite surprised.  But happy. Its time Alvarez got what for.

Brave of Canelo to even take the fight, but Bivol was just too big and very composed. He was hurting Canelo. Weight classes matter when you're at a high level. Even if you're on whatever the hell Canelo is and able to take your power up with you - if your opponents are of a similar skill, they're just naturally bigger and can absorb the punishment better. Canelo still has the infrastructure of a little guy. Conducted himself well during the post-fight interview, though.

Bivol beats Clenelo on compubox literally 12-0 rounds with 115-113 cards.  The fix was in if they could have found a way.   Lara and GGG One both out compubox him but get bullshit decisions. This guy is not the P4P best fighter in the world with 4 defeats.  Fraud b/c he has Mexicans who will buy his ppvs so he can get away with BS. That's 4 defeats. Now, you see why he stayed from Andrade for undisputed at 160 who is even better at controlling distance but is more complex than 1-2 guys like Lara and Bivol
