Is bodybuilding as dead as getbig?
« on: May 08, 2022, 08:57:37 AM »
I have been here before, under a few handles.  Started some of the biggest threads this forum has seen in the last decade or so.

But I had been away for a while.

And I've got to say I've never seen the place so dead.

Good to see some of the intelligent posters are still around, but they don't have much to say, cos there isn't much to say here anymore I guess.

Gayer than posting about posting

Nobody cares about anyone's return unless it's bigmc, Gal, BCF,  or _AJ_

But since it was brought up, the Y board recently had a legendary discussion on the pros and cons of garage epoxy floors.  I would hardly call that a "dead forum".

Messaging boards as a whole are being supplanted for Reddit and Instagram which is too because those media do far less to encourage discussions.

Bodybuilding and this site were in a state of decline, some would even say it was the early stages of its complete demise.

But that all changed one fateful day when a bald nearly crippled middle aged man began walking again. His polio stricken legs started to regain strength and size, with his doctors encouragement and help (by way of weekly shots of 500mg of TRT) this home gym warrior mustered the courage to post photos of his upper body down to his d!ck root to gage how he looks.

Getbig welcomed this misguided and lost soul, Thunderdome style! Many debates ensued, but before long this ex military hero, self made trust fund baby entered the largest local show in his neighborhood to prove this place wrong and show us bodybuilding is still alive and strong!

In taking 2nd place out of 2 competitors in his class Bhanks revealed the heart and character of the true champion that he is! His drive to push the boundaries of physical limitations has inspired the whole industry and reignited this forum in way that MattC’s self absorbed racist tirades never could!

We are truly in a new era as we watch Bhanks fight off death, the legal system, gainful employment and the haters as he chases his bodybuilding dream. Aliments that would devastate normal men are merely stepping stones for our Bhanks. For instance, his live in girlfriend had asked that he remove the pool table from the living room. Most Getbiggers would cut ties with this woman but Bhanks showed us a different way, that love involves sacrifice and material objects cannot be a hindrance to the pursuit of excellence. Now he never said this, but I like to believe he loaded that pool table into the back of his ZO6 Vette and donated it to the local boys club.

There have already been many adventures as Brian shares his personal journey on this public board and there are bound to be many more, as this one man, who has only overcame every obstacle placed before him (whether those challenges were a 115 pound woman, probation that prevents from leaving the state despite having no criminal record, disease, adderall or the truth) single-handedly revived this board and sport.

So to answer your question, no bodybuilding and this board are not dead. Thanks to the selflessness of Brian Wood Healy!

Messaging boards as a whole are being supplanted for Reddit and Instagram.  It’s a shame because those media do far less to encourage discussions.  It’s shame too, as I think discussion boards can be an incredible source of information.

Agreed.

Messaging boards are more intimate. They allow for excellent dissemination of ideas. They allow its members to establish themselves within a virtual community of peers that may or may not share many similarities. Reddit can be interesting, but I find that forums like this allow for you to establish a better "online" identity than what is possible on places like Reddit or Twitter,

I look at messaging boards less as a dying medium for socialization, as I do as part of the foundation to things like the Metaverse. In an all-virtual world, where people get avatars and put on VR headsets to interact, you are still trying to interact with others. Whether that reality includes visuals, auditory and possibly tactile capacities is besides the point, the most important factor is interaction. What a place like this still affords most is a modicum of privacy and the ability to log on/off whenever you want without anyone else directly spying on you. You interact with whom you want, when you want and we aren't overly-policing anyone.

To the OP's point, I think both bodybuilding and Getbig are alive. What I think GetBig does, which bodybuilding does not due to the fact that our own physiology takes centuries to appreciate genetic changes, is evolve. GetBig has evolved to be more than just bodybuilding. We no longer solely talk about professional and amateur bodybuilding. We discuss topics that involve politics, economics, law, history, human sexuality, other sports, humor and the current world's changing thought paradigm. I would hate to have to limit GetBig's capacity to be greater than what the name suggests, but our evolution here is obvious. Also, our ability to stay alive as compared to the vast majority of bodybuilding forums is a testament to what we bring to the table. We never charge anyone a dime to be here, we never will. We are here, for that much needed break in your hectic life to laugh, shoot the shit amongst friends and unclench the jaw after dealing with people in your "real" life that you likely despise or have grown tired of.

So is GetBig dead? No. We're simply like an old friend you once knew, but likely haven't seen/spoken to in numerous years. If we don't ever see you again, it's all good. If we by chance happen to bump into each other on the street, we'll happily grab a beer with you and catch up about life while making fun of all races, genders, sexual orientation and political affiliations, while also sprinkling in a little bodybuilding.

I’m certainly not going to 1 up some of the posts above, but I’m thankful the board is not dead.

All the boards I frequented in the 2000’s are actually dead.

I wasn’t a member here, but I was an occasional lurker at that time.

I saw people’s names I recognized and most everyone was a bit older than me so I felt a bit intimidated and out of place so I fit in elsewhere better at that time.

Some years back I started to miss the camaraderie of the boards and I hoped they weren’t all dead and this was the only one that still felt like the old days.

The death of Getbig happened when the V board got nuked.

That board was on the podium for the most posts and had some outstanding content.

It was the true home for discussions on white towels, room 7, skinny mini's, corn in shit, Jamaican musclebears etc.

The V represented all that was good about Getbig.

Occasionally you get some interesting discussions and debates on Getbig whereas pro bodybuilding has devolved into a bizarre medical experiment in which the subjects see how many drugs they can ingest  without dying.

Catalyzed urethane also an option. I couldn't speak to issues of hot tire (tyre) peeling or chemical compatibility if motor oils etc are an issue, but it bears investigating. High traffic commercial settings often opt for tile since you get exacly the friction vs cleanability you want with high durability. Idk if there's such a thing as a silicon floor. Probably.

Idk much about polished concrete sealants. Would guess the porosity of the slab would be something best controlled for in the mix design with inclusion of superfines like silica fume but maybe open matrices seal up just fine. A polishing guy could surely discuss grind grit and friction so you don't get sued when some idiot falls. Fwiw I've never seen a high polish look awesome, not even brand new before any scuffs appear. A dude pushing a machine just can't achieve a blanchard ground plane. There's probably big dollars to be made in laser guided bot grinding, but even then I'd expect sunlight striking a high gloss to show up every little wobble.

I once saw a machine shop that opted for chunky plate steel flooring with a natural rust finish. Drop anything you want on that honey badger floor. It doesn't get more industrial than that.

Getbig has less censorship than most mainstream online forums, from Facebook to Pinterest to Tiktok.

Try attacking covid vaccines on Facebook. It's done daily here. Open talk of illegal drug use like steroids. Critique of BLM or ANY other group is allowed and supported.

And best of all, VERY little spam within posts, because we have some old, hardass getbiggers that just won't allow it.  Yes it happens, but if you started a NEW bodybuilding board, half the posts would be, "I gained 30 lbs. of pure muscle with this new supplement. I can't believe it guys!!!!!"

Not here man.

Even though Getbig has it's share of censorship, people getting banned, etc.., it's probably better than any alternative for bodybuilding enthusiasts.

So Getbig is doing just fine.
