What if this is a calculated political ploy, to show her constituents that she isnt taking kickbacks? I'm sure she is but this "request" is to get in front of any bad press when its revealed she took money from somewhere.  She can then fall back on the "I asked for help and no one did anything" response, and then offer to show where all additional monies came from.
