Thinking about taking a month off.
« on: July 14, 2022, 05:40:08 PM »
Anyone ever take a month off? I never have but I’m contemplating doing just that to give my whole body a break and relax for a while. Thinking that my food poisoning or whatever is a good start to my month off cause I feel absolutely horrible.

Sometimes it does you good....lets the joints, tendons, and ligaments heal up and renews your enthusiasm for training.

I take 2-3 full weeks off every Christmas.

It's good to let your body recover.

If i feel burned out i take a week off.

At our age there is no point pushing.

Taking time off will help you reset and the gains will be plentiful upon your return to the iron.

Thanks overload, in 31 years I think the most I took off was a week. But a month sounds nice.

Nasser El Sonbaty used to recommend one full month off per year.

Ronnie would do 3-4 full months off each year after the Olympia, and start training again around the Arnold Classic.

Then there's Kevin Levrone, who took around 5.5 months off per year from gear...not sure about training, but I would assume training too.

Take the month off. A good way to not let it all go down the drain is to just keep a clean diet while not working out for a full month.

Enjoy yourself!

I have no choice but to take 4-6 weeks off after hernia surgery on Monday. Been skipping here and there and definitely skipping while on vacation if you don’t count the Shining Sea Bike Trail.

Brutal and true! Had it since college and it’s never bothered me, hurt or has gotten worse. Pretty much getting it for cosmetic reasons plus I didn’t want an incident ever happening where I’d need emergency surgery especially if I was in a foreign country. It’s umbilical, so hopefully it’s an easy fix. The surgeon said 10 minutes and twilight anesthesia like a colonoscopy.

Forced 4-6 weeks would be ideal. Lot easier to do haha. Good luck with the surgery and enjoy the time off.

Cool, it`s good that you`re doing it to avoid future complications.

Good luck brother.

I take about 1 week off every couple of months. I think Gironda advocated something along those lines like train for 7 weeks then take 7 days off. I have a tendency to overtrain so i try to stick to that.

If you are feeling fine, taking one month off of any exercise must be brutal. At least some exercise or doing very light weight training.

Yes. Several times when travelling.

No problems, some loss in strength but quickly regained within a few weeks and a good time to allow any niggling injuries to recover.

Not much difference in appearance in terms of muscle atrophy.

A month is still fine.
