The issue is that Europe is totally unprepared for this heat. It’s normally in the 70s F in London this time of year, and the previous record in UK was 38.7C from 3 years ago and that’s looking to be broken in the next couple days.  The buildings and homes just aren’t built for it.

That cold snap that crippled Texas wouldn’t have registered up North, but since Texas never encounters those temperatures they were unable to deal w it and hundreds lost their lives.

They've had a thousand years as a culture to get ready for it. Big fucking deal. It seems people have become snowflakes over every damn thing these days. I've lived in northern NY, central Arizona, and the deep south and haven't died yet.

Wet, skin tight clothes. Sounds fruity but works. Looks fruity but works. I work in underarmour longs on brutal hot days.

Celsius ::)

Exactly.

Imagine using a unit of measurement that starts with a “c”.

No wonder they’re afraid of dying. Seems very soft.

I can actually sympathize with my British brethren.....it`s been hotter that a pepper sprout here.....really uncomfortable humid heat.......but it beats the winters up here by miles.....they`re fucking brutal.

UK people escape from the mild weather to hot countries, but then shit their pants when the hot weather comes home.

They'd probably complain about some footballer on the england team being transphobic if the world cup ever comes home.

I see them Mexicans on them roofs in this shit and wonder how in the Hell they do it.

The majority of real Mexican's have never had air conditioning. They have those swamp coolers at best.

It wasn't until recently that air conditioning became common in most of the Country.

Most of the infrastructure can't handle the loads generated by true AC and it's expensive.

I see them in the Chihuahua desert when it's 105F, driving around in cars with no AC, windows down.

My GF's sisters house was built 5 years ago, only has a swamp cooler. On a 100F day that house gets down to maybe 80-82. So they open the windows. The only person struggling with the heat is me, the gringo. ;D

They are used to living like this, only the rich people and tourist locations have AC.

Some people are starting to buy those split AC systems and install them in houses, but most of the population is too poor to afford them or their electrical system can't handle it.

That is brutal. I am 63 years old so I remember not having ac in our house or car but I don’t want to go back to that.

Amongst English's more peculiar idioms is "Cool as a cucumber." Cucumbers grow in the summer, directly on the ground, which is even warmer than the air.

Subterranean foods are insulated from summer heat. Upon seeing someone negotiate a trying situation with great aplomb, you can remark "That fellow is as cool as a potato."

Should you require alliterative appeal to win your audience's adulation, "Cool as a carrot" is sure to show those in the know that you've the info where various vegetables grow.

Carry on sweltering.

My grandparents' house in central Texas didn't have AC, it was built in the 1930's. I remember as a kid it was insanely hot during the day, but at night it was alright because we had big fans.

Growing up in SE Texas on the coast with all the humidity, i would have probably died without AC. ;D

I was an East Texas kid also.At 10 years old we moved to Ft Worth and yeah when I would go back to my grandparents in E.Texas that humidity would kill me.

More than 1,000 deaths have been attributed to the nearly week-long heatwave in Portugal and Spain so far. Temperatures in Spain have reached as high as 45.7C (114F).
