I used to see Dave at a zillion contests, one year at the New Englands he was a vascular and I meal a truly veiny SOB while weighing 315 pounds.

I think he said his heaviest weight was 318-lb, but I didn't know he was showing good vascularity at that weight.

The term "Palumboism" was coined after Dave for a reason, but one can also argue that he had pretty elite genetics - he just had some structural flaws that cost him, such as a slightly bigger waist, leathery skin [which was prominent in his last pro attempt], a physique that stopped "popping" as the years/contests went on [a symptom of the onset of Palumboism], and heavy competition for his era [before they started giving "IFBB Pro Cards" out like candy on Halloween 🎃], etc.

If Dave had been born 20 years later, he could have likely turned pro in another category. That said - maybe it saved him. As he has ran a successful bodybuilding website and coaching business instead.

He probably had covid at some point which may have increased his clotting factor/d dimer score, he's most likely on trt (which thickens blood) he most likely took a flight to be part of the broadcast team for the Masters nationals in Pittsburgh, if your susceptible for clots flying at high altitude will definitely be extremely dangerous. So he most likely got a blood clot and ended up dieing of a heart attack due to it.

Does air travel significantly increase the risk of blood clotting?

Being stationary for hours at a time does, not being in the airplane itself

The lesson to be learned is that our actions have consequences...they may not come right away but make no mistake user pays, no one escapes unscathed.   For most of us it's too late, hopefully some of the younger generation will learn from all of this and not be so naive.

Ah. I was wondering if it was an air pressure thing. Thank you for clarifying that.

IMO, most men around 5'10" are going to basically be a clean 180 off gear.

A fellow at my gym is around 5'11" and 250-260. He's big, to be sure, but if you consider his body fat percentage, I can't fathom him being 220 and any leaner than me - that's compared to my 203 right now.

I think perma-bulking is so common because natural bodybuilding operates at a snail's pace, so you have guys wanting success in it, so they dirty-bulk up to 250-lb and stay at that weight, when they'd probably be 220 at 15% body fat, and realistically, wouldn't even be 200 if they truly cut.

But how much pure muscle mass would a natural bodybuilder be gaining in a year?

I'd say NOT 5-lb per year. Less.

Maybe 5-lb of relatively clean mass - but not pure muscle mass. Not among people who have been at the gym for a while.

Hence dirty bulking and perma-bulkers come about.

I hope Palumbo is just being a hypochondriac, but it sounds like he may have had a scare at some point.

He's applied his high IQ Jewish mind into the business side of bodybuilding. He put competitive behind him when he realized he wasn't likely to turn pro.

Hopefully, he can live the rest of his days in good health, and for a while yet. Though if he's hiding something, then I wouldn't be able to hazard a guess how much time he has left.
a natural would be happy with 2 lbs per year. That is 20 lbs in 10 years. And Im not even seeing that. There is such thing as natural genetic limit. Most are not seeing natural gains past 5-8 years of dedicate lifting tbh.

Whoops - my bad...I did not know Dave has papillary thyroid cancer:

https://fitnessvolt.com/dave-palumbo-papillary-thyroid-cancer/

 :(

That's sad - maybe that's why he's allegedly so concerned about Covid.

Papillary thyroid cancer is the weakest kind of cancer & it has an almost 100% survival rate.  They probably just removed Palumbo's thyroid, and now he's considered "cured."

It's not a covid risk factor in itself.  I don't even think that it qualifies as a comorbidity.

Nice of you to drop by - feels like it's been a while 8)

How did you find out about the long QT?  Regular check-up?  Or did you feel/notice something was not right?

That sounds about right, and would actually be good.

Think about 3-4 pounds of bacon basically added to your body.

It doesn't seem like a lot of mass, but it is. Natural bodybuilding is slow, but I would not complain about gain 3-4 pounds of muscle a year for a few years.

Fuck. No rona jabs... Was already having issues with extreme bilateral pitting on both lower legs.. so bad to the point I could barely bend my right leg. Could barely F a girl from behijd cuz my leg wouldn't bend from water retention. Rona jabs seem to me like a death sentence by blood clot

But the long QT is from stuff keeping me off opiates (went to rehab in '19 Dec)

Spot on. 3-4lbs of lean tissue gained in a year by an experienced lifter is really good gains. There's so many transformation videos on YouTube with these ridiculous claims of "I gained 20lbs of muscle in 16 weeks." It's just not possible
