Is Hulu worth buying....
« on: July 26, 2022, 02:53:11 PM »
....they always advertise a free 30 day free trial ,but when I click on it it ay I own it if downloaded.

Doe this mean I have to pay which I have no problem doing as long as it`s decent.

I paid for Netflix several years ago on the understanding that it was basically every movie ever, on demand.

Turned out they had jack shit. "Oh, Australian licensing agreements are different than the US, so we have some made for TV after school specials from the 80s, plus the CGI-futuro stuff we made ourselves where black women rescue stupid white men from evil white men."

 ???

My mistake, I guess.

Also my credit card expired and my YouTube subscription along with it. Don't really feel like paying those censorious assholes anymore either.

Idk what Hulu is like. But I'm not signing up for another service until I find out if their execs are a bunch of chop haired dykes who'd like me to die.

Thanks Tape...I cancelled a few shitters recently also but my wife insists I keep Netflix.

Tubi TV has a veritable ton of flicks but you have to sift through the bullshit to find the good tuff but they are there if you look hard enough.

Hulu is alright, not a lot of movies or shows but some good ones. I’d say it’s worth the 5.99 a month I pay.

VPN works with the internet...phone, tablet or pc.

Free VPNs are no good.

I have:

Netflix, Amazon prime, shudder (horror), HBO MAX (I use someone’s account), Disney, Hulu, and Peacock.

None of them are perfect, but you can’t beat the prices.

I also don’t have cable.

Get a VPN and download whatever you want.
If a show with multiple seasons is on Hulu, Netflix, Prime etc. it is better to watch it on that service than downloading it. It becomes a big job downloading all the episodes and seasons at a decent resolution and it takes up a lot of space.

I have done it and run a Plex server but it still takes some work and I have a few terrabytes worth of movie files and shows. I do download movies and tv shows via VPN and at the same time I am paying for Showtime, STARZ, CineMAX, HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix and Amazon Prime. Plus Cable TV. So I don't feel guilty grabbing a movie here and there after all the money I am sending their way anyway via my subscriptions.

I am keeping the cable for my wife's benefit. She likes to channel surf. If it was just me I would have ditched cable TV a long time ago.

That sounds like lot of work.

I agree with this brand spanking NEW IFBB Professional Bodybuilder when he says HBO Max is the best.  That's the route I'd go.

I have a website (needs a good adblocker) that can stream almost any show or movie for free. No VPN required.

Send nudes via PM and I'll share it.

Who knows how many streaming services we have in this household? We are three generations all with different viewing tastes. My grandson and his fiancé stream exclusively. He also pirates what he wants every-so-often which makes me angry because Xfinity internet is in my name, so I get the nasty messages when he does this. In addition, on Xfinity's most expensive package which includes all the premiums, I pay for Netflix and Amazon Prime. We also have Hulu and more which I don't pay for or use. We may just be the most overloaded entertainment household in existence. LOL.

Here's the kicker, never I turn on the television before 6:00 pm and turn it off at 11:00 pm. during some of that time I am in the kitchen fixing my dinner. My addiction is to home improvement and gardening shows. Tonight, I watched the Magnolia Network exclusively. Amazon Prime gives me access to Britbox which broadcast Gardener's World hosted by Monty Don. Gardening is my main hobby. I watch every episode of this show as soon as it airs. I also sometimes enjoy the British show, Escape to the Country which is another reality Real Estate show only it is based in the U.K.

I used to tune in MSM, until I realized most of the news is a downer that I don't need. I'd mainly switch between CNN and FOX, watching as much of each as I could tolerate.

Why am I not surprised you like BBC stuff ;D

If it's on Britbox I recommend checking out Grand Designs, Homes under the hammer and an older show called Ground Force. Also British cooking shows. I liked Rick Stein and Nigella Lawson. They have a similar type of appeal to the shows you mention.

You won't get those messages if your grandson downloads via VPN. It obscures your public WAN IP address. WAN stands for Wide Area Network. It's basically the public IP that any computer in your household broadcasts as it connects to services on the internet. Getbig records that IP address with every post. But if you use a VPN it only records the VPN address which could be anywhere in the world - Russia, Europe, Australia, Japan etc. Most VPN services allow you to choose a location. However ping times will drop in some areas. So you might as well choose auto connect and it will go with the best response time. That way your internet speed is not too slow while connected to the VPN service.

Your grandson should also remove any movies from the queue of his torrent software once he has downloaded / leeched what he wanted. Because otherwise he'll be sharing that with others on the internet and it will eat into your bandwidth. And you'll get unwanted attention from the movie industry's lawyers. You better talk to your grandson about this and get him a VPN service ASAP. It is not too expensive. But he better not be lazy with that. Best thing is to setup a dedicated computer with VPN service always on and with a VPN kill switch enabled. Then that computer is only used for torrents and nothing else. You can also run a dedicated virtual machine with VPN to download movie torrents. The key thing is to always have VPN on that machine and with a kill switch. If the VPN goes down the internet access of the computer / virtual machine is killed also. That way your REAL IP can never slip through the cracks into the clutches of those lawyers.

You can also claim you know nothing about these downloads. Best thing to do is to ignore those letters and start downloading with VPN. They really can't prove you downloaded anything even if your IP is recorded. You could claim someone remotely logged into your machine to download stuff. Or someone was able to get on your wifi and steal data, unbeknownst to you. If they come to investigate I would move all the incriminating computers off premises and setup the wifi with no password and claim ignorance lol!
