31 vs 46
« on: August 06, 2022, 08:12:13 AM »
This is 2007 at 31 yo and 217lbs vs 2022, 46 yo and whatever 67kg is. I obviously prefer the latter and am officially sedentary and have been for the more recent past years. How did your view on self body image and goals changed, if so, over the course of your adult life?

I was 260 at 31 and now I’m 220 at 44. I like 220 much more.

Looking at those 2 pics !!
So you've dropped in the region of 70lbs & gone from being fat with some muscle tissue to extremely skinny with a bit of muscle tissue albeit with little
Body fat.

Personally I'd say some where in between those 2 Body weights & Body fat percentages You would Look Much Better.
It's your Body & your choice how you wish to look & that I Respect.

You let your ersonal freling overcrowd your judgement. Fat with some muscle? I have little fat with lots of water . Skinny? that IS muscle... I have the SAME muscles in both pics, bodybuilding does ot grow muscle tissue. It is inflamation from within that creates the inflated look. Ironically, they ARE inflated muscles with some fat
But mo... you do not grow newuscle cells. Bodybuilding was, is and will be an illusion. Pay attention

My goal is health and a clear mind. The way I see it

So the scope is to eat as little as I can, consistently, unprocessed and so forth. The way it LOOKS it is a byproduct. Not going for "looks" as I COULD be even more ripped by adding some carbs and sodium and shaving tanning maybe even lifting some weights ocassionally

The Kate Moss diet, yes.

As for me, this used to be my goal:

Basically, eat as little as possible while having the testosterone level of a San Francisco street worker.

But now, this is my goal - to be 217-lb and pretty lean:

As you can see, my goal was also to look like I had AIDS:

But I am much happier now, weighing 206-lb:

And I'm giving thought to hitting 220 before September comes.

As you can see, I look much better now - whether I am healthier, I don't know, but my goal is still to carry more size than I used to, and to look like you in the inflamed "Before" picture.

You are confused while most gains are hypertrophy hyperplasia is also a real thing. I agree you look like beef jerkie and could swell back up pretty quick if you added water and food but when someone goes from 150lbs to 300lbs it is not all inflammation and water retention. You also were not that big at 31 you were kind of bloated you did not have that mature dense hyperplasia look you had that early bloated hypertrophy look

Is there any evidence that hyperplasia is real? Is there literature on this, or is it just your hunch that hyperplasia is real?

Van Bilderass said that after a cycle, you can have an upregulation of testosterone receptors, but I have never heard of the ability to gain more muscle cells / muscle fiber.

When I was a teenager and skinny as a rail, I wanted to be big. I was constantly eating or drinking banana milkshakes with a raw egg added. Although I don't think I would go so far as to say I was obsessed with getting bigger, it was definitely something I thought about often. I started smoking cigarettes when I was 18 years old and continued until I was 29 which is when I quit cold turkey. This is when putting on some pounds really took off. I was lifting heavy and regularly. My weight got up to 225 lbs. I liked how I looked but not how I felt. Most of the rest of my adult life I've maintained a weight between 165 and 185 lbs. and continued going to the gym a few times a week. I'll be 78 years old this month. I am healthy and relatively fit. I no longer have any desire to look like a bodybuilder. As long as I look good in clothes, I am happy.
