Calf training dilemma
« on: August 07, 2022, 05:45:31 AM »
So here's the question for the experts on getbig..
Should I use say 6-10 reps with heavy poundages or high reps say 20+. I'm not genetically gifted on my calves so what's the best options.
I want thick density

Best thing is just to train them every workout...at least every other day.

Get them pumped every time you train them.

If they are not getting pumped you will not get results.

Unless you’re going to compete, who cares about training legs.

Yep - you can get significant size just by sprinting on a bike or running track regularly

I thought the pump wasn't always a sure sign of growth?
Been doing about 15 reps on seated raises with a barbell. I know standing is supposed to work another area or the whole calf but is seated not enough? Sure I read somewhere that seated was enough. Never liked standing although I did do them regularly. In the Gym I use a proper machine. I feel a bit stupid asking people to jump on my back for donkey calf raises [ no machine for these]

Dont you find your better bodyparts are the ones you get the best pump in?

I think you need to keep power in the legs.

If you are less than 5 10 you should train them so you can stand for longer on your tiptoes at concerts

If your goal is hypertrophy then you want a pump to get best results.

Seated are good for the soleus but not enough to develop the complete calf.

Standing will develop the complete calf.

Standing options - any calf exercise with the leg straight, not bent at knee like being seated.

Standing calf machine
Leg press
1 leg calf raises
Donkey calf

Legs are the pillars or foundation of your body so why not keep them strong?

Yes I actually did calf raises on a seated leg press. So really from my body position it was near to a donkey calf raise. I did get a nice burn on these.

Use enough reps and sets to get a good pump.  Do multiple times a week.

Sprints are great for abs too (on foot, not sure about on a bike).

Most cyclists seem to have good calves, runners not so much.
