I dated a Vietnamese girl many years ago.

Her nephews were like this. One of them could play some of Beethoven's work on the piano with his eyes closed. And complete a rubix cube in less than 3 minutes.

He was 9 years old.

Won the regional spelling bee 4 years in a row. Had nearly perfect grades.

It wasn't because he was smart, it was because his parents forced him to practice these things 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

When he got home from school, he did his homework immediately, ate dinner and then studied for the NEXT grade year for 2 hours.

It was insane and he hated everything about it, but had no choice.

If he didn't get straight A's or win whatever competition he was forced into, his parents threatened to kick him out of the house to live on the street.

It works well for the Vietnamese, who have some of the best test scores in the nation.

And they all end up being Doctors, lawyers or highly educated Tech people.

Not saying it's bad, but as these kids grew up they had some serious mental problems. Not all do, but i still know this family.

One is in college now to be a Pediatrician and the other is the valedictorian of his High School.

They are taught they are nothing without an education and that money is the only thing to focus on in life.

Which is absolutely true from a certain perspective.

They are like little robots.
