That is drug related for sure. Either he got this swollen from the steroids or, if this was shot after a show, drug rebound. If it's not a diuretic rebound, which steroids worsen, then it's a very bad sign. I know a lot of bodybuilders who shit themselves on the rebound after a show, which is made worse if your traveling after a show, either a long plane flight
or even sitting immobile in a car. "Pray to God this goes away soon" is the thought process. Many taper their diuretics to mitigate a nasty rebound, probably healthier too. I've got some pics of ankles on my phone, "bro you think I'm going to be ok?" Sometimes they can't even wear their normal shoes.

Thanks Van_Bilderass. That reminds of what I mentioned briefly above about Schwarzenegger but I'm relaying it from something I read a long time ago and might be misremembering and butchering the facts. Schwarzenegger said, I think, that he drank alcohol before the 80 O and it made his ankles really swollen, so he panicked and I believe took cortisone and did a bunch of aerobics/sweating to bring down the swelling. I don't have the article and aspects of that could be off.

Taking cortisone to reduce water retention sounds completely counterintuitive. And you could never trust Arnold to tell the truth so who knows and if he made up some story, well, it's Arnold  :D

In another thread someone said another pro bb said Arnold took a shot of cortisone to deal with a shoulder problem weeks before the O and it had some negative effects. That sounds logical. I remember Dorian said he was forced to take cortisone before one of the Olympias to be able to train at all and he too said it wasn't good for the conditioning. Though I don't know how much a local injection is supposed to affect bodily systems, the shot is supposed to mostly stay localised. Now if Arnold's cortisone shot was some kind of systemic corticoid (are there any, I don't know?) then that could be horrendous - oral corticoids cause crazy water retention, moon face, metabolic disturbances. I noticed nothing negative from taking a series Depo-Medrol shot for my shoulder but I'm not a contest ready bb.

What you're describing re Arnold sounds more familiar. The cortisone shot was for the shoulder and then he posed for hours trying to lose water. I think I was conflating 2 different stories(at best). :-X I read it years ago in a back issue of M&F but this mention I just found in Ironman online is a retelling:

"When Arnold arrived in Sydney, his friend Franco Columbu watched him pose in his hotel room and asked him what the hell happened? Arnold was retaining water and he didn’t look like the same physique when he posed at World Gym in California. Franco asked Arnold if he was taking any drugs. “Just the usual steroids”, Arnold replied. When Arnold admitted that he also took a cortisone shot for a shoulder injury that he had incurred in his intense training for the contest, Franco hit the roof! “You idiot, how are we going to get the water out?” The former 6 time Mr. Olympia spent most of his evening posing and posing and posing in order to shed the excess water retention caused by the cortisone shot. It was early in the morning before Arnold finally collapsed on his hotel room bed, exhausted from his spartan effort to shed the water from his physique."

Are you saying he’s good, but he lacks too many things? His arms aren't big enough to match his legs?

He needed 24'' arms to match his legs, instead he only had like 19'' arms

Supposed to be the same person, 21 days between pics. She does look happier. Or maybe it's the steroid  mania/euphoria which even Trump was said to suffer from after his hospital visit  :D It is a well know side.

Crazy how much different cortisone can make you look.

Arnold would do anything to win. Never seen such drive in a person.

I can personally tell you from training with Bob back in the day that he took hardly anything.

At the same time he said he spent a ton of money for a tiny dose of prescription Protropin, the first recombinant rhGH. The doses were too low due to cost to do much but him going through the trouble of aquiring it he was looking for the "edge" basically just on rumor that it would "work." Surely this guy would try to max out the roids just like everyone else.

I only had big calves once in my life. When I stood up after a 7 hour flight lol. I sat through the entire flight. Not kidding. They were swollen AF

It's not that uncommon. Some people even end up with life threatening blood clots after long flights, some of whom maybe had a clotting disorder they didn't know about. Some bodybuilders take diuretics before flights or long roadtrips :D A lot of times bodybuilders will blame their poor conditioning on travelling too close to the show. I have recommended compression socks before flights, might help.

It's always worth remembering his personality too - the Golden Era Doc (84 O) is a great watch if you're an old fart, and when it comes to Platz, the first 10 minutes or so is gold - you can almost hear him grinding gears when he tries to maximise the positivity, then brag, then be humble, etc...  he can't keep up with his own stream of consciousness... ;D

(And Joe Weider had dark hair once!??!)

His description of body parts as emotions around 6:50 is so funny ;D

She was a cute little number.

The current version, not so much.
