Livermush is a Southern United States pork food product prepared using pig liver, parts of pig heads, cornmeal and spices. It is a regional cuisine that is common in Western North Carolina, and is typically consumed as a breakfast and lunch food. It has been suggested that livermush derives from scrapple. By law in North Carolina, the product must consist of at least 30% pig liver. Several festivals exist in North Carolina that are dedicated to the food.

Though sometimes considered the same as liver pudding, livermush generally contains more cornmeal and is coarser in texture. It is generally prepared using a different recipe than for liver pudding.

I thought that was a Bear Bryant quote.  Learn something new every day.

I thought Durocher said it but it appears to not be attributed to anyone in particular.

Some reference it to NASCAR.

Many have said it over the years.

Do you have any reference that traces it to Bryant?  I would like to know.

Baseball is known for cheating.  It's considered part of the game in some ways.

Slave food.  Using scraps and animal parts the master did not want.

I don't have a source...just heard from someone so your guess is as good as mine.

a lot of Southern "comfort" foods come from shit left over after the Union burned fields and left weird shit behind they thought was animal food - wouldn't you know a fckn redneck would eat that shit

black eyed peas for instance ??

"When Sherman's troops overtook and raided the food supplies of the Confederate South, Union soldiers regarded as them as animal feed and left them behind in the fields. The Confederates, however, survived by eating this crop and considered themselves lucky to have had them and, so, the peas became symbolic of luck. Good luck to be gained by eating black-eyed peas with greens (such as collards) comes from the symbols of peas as coins and greens as paper money."

You should try it.  It's pretty good but definitely not health food.

One time won't kill you.

The Samoans practically live on it.

We ate it all the time growing up. My mom would fry it in a pan with Worcestershire sauce.

My grandfather used to eat spam and eggs in the morning.

They seemed to have it all over the place in Hawaii so I tried it. Wasn't impressed. Maybe it's an acquired taste.
