What a fucking joke.....that`s all I need to say if you know what true/real powerlifting is.

If that lift was official, the organization putting it on should be shut down.

My best bench ever was 300 at 150 pounds.....touch and go very strict.

There is no way I could bench 325 but I trained with a 21 year old kid once who trained really hard and though I knew better he thought we should train heavier.....well we got up to 325 with his hands on the bar and "we" did a triple.....if he let go I would have gotten crushed.....this shit is just plain old fucking DUMB!!

After that I told the kid we were training my way or he could train alone.

I haven’t been in a commercial gym in a while but I always chuckled watching someone benching and some spotter would be pulling on the bar with all his might and screaming “All you!”

The guy benching should be yelling "its all you" while his partner upright rows the weight off of him...

That`s what it amounts the spotter doing mega-heavy upright rows!   :D

"bencher = no pecs

spotter = huge traps

A much better scenario that has been proven effective is heavy negatives but you have to have 2 knowledgable spotters.

He really was I was fortunate enough to get to watch him train on a few occasions. I actually squatted with him once although it was not really my idea it just worked out that way.

I could not watch it, especially after reading the excellent comments here.  There should be no special shirts, undies (sorry, Mormons!  ;D ), suits etc.

No one touches the bar except the lifter.  They must lift it off the bench themselves and if anyone touches the bar any time during the lift, it is over and void.  Same with squats.  Deadlifts should be done in one style only.  Traditional.  Think Vince Anello.

But mankind, even with drugs, can only go so far, get so strong.  Until there comes a man whose genetic makeup is genuinely superior to others and then maybe he will set new records.  People will cheat to set records and to be truthful, those "records" ain't shit.  Those records are broken, made invalid by cheating with crap that makes up for being a pussy.  Fuck That Noise.

I don't like the assisted lifts. Seems kind of silly.

But it is like a different sport.

In the early 2000's i trained in power lifting and met Tiny Meeker, he was one of the first 1000-pound benchers. Watching them bench with these shirts on gave me anxiety, saw a guys arm snap right in half.

We are not built for this. The crazy shirts, wrist wraps, etc.

But if this is what they enjoy, go for it i guess.

For my money, this is the most impressive bench ever:

All on his own, correct?  That is how it needs to be done.  You lift it off the supports yourself and bench press it then put them back yourself.  I used to arch my back like a bridge when benching and one of my powerlifter friends told me that was wrong and instructed me to raise my legs off the ground then bend and cross them above me to prevent me from doing that.  He was right.  It made bench pressing the right way possible for someone used to cheating.

Yes.  No lift off help and no leg drive.

Posting this is like posting that played-out video of Prince playing a solo in “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” in best-guitarist threads.

The go-to for folks who don’t know much of anything about the subject.

There are dozens of examples of presses throughout the years EVERY BIT as impressive, and many more so, as that one, as impressive as it no doubt is.

No offence.

And I’ll say it once more: A natural arch through the length of spine, with pinched shoulder blades, is the optimal biomechanical “shape” for both peak performance and shoulder safety. The shoulders BEHIND the chest, thereby channeling the downward force into a point through the centre of the upper torso and not to dual points directly onto the relatively vulnerable shoulder mechanics.

Done properly, shoulder issues through bench pressing will RARELY occur.

Now, as with anything, humans take something good and exaggerate it to the point of ludicrousness. Arches are no different.

A flat back on the bench, with the shoulders lined up with the chest, and the elbows out, is a first-class ticket to shoulder issues/injury.

As far as these presses as like the one with Mendy, it’s obviously ridiculous. However, unlike most gear-only lifters, the man did hold the raw record for almost a decade with 715. Before Spotto, Sarychev and Maddox came along.

Dude was a dangerous lunatic.

One year I was backstage at the Arnie Strongman with Coan and Gillingham and Glen was trying to dismantle some twig journalist who’d written something that offended Chabot in some way. A battalion of elite strength players were protecting the runt from certain death.

I was good friends with Chabot but I had an argument with his chick who  worked the gym desk.....she said she was gonna` get him to kick my ass.

That same night the gym owner called my house and told me to avoid the gym for 2-3 weeks until Glen calmed down.

I said fuck Glen this is my hometown and I run from no one including him,I was there in the morning training my clients as always.....I figured if he fucked with me I had mucho backup that were not nice guys at all plus I thought he had to lay down sometime to do benches and that would be when he met a 45 pound bar across his face.

Anyway I stepped into the gym for my first client in the early AM and he spotted me from way across the gym, came up to me and shook ,my hand and told me he always had respect for me and his girffriednd was an ass at times and it didn`t warrant losing our 3 year long friendship.

In all honesty I had no fear cuz where I`m from payback is a monster.

He used to supply me with pins.....pretty good guy if he was calm and if he wsasn`t it didn`t faze me a bit.....you think Josh is crazy I could have cared less what he did.

I saw him get his ass handed to him at a strip bar as ne was the bouncer but instead of bouncing,he got bounced around.

I know he could have killed me but it was far from  my first rodeo.

Believe it or not but I had no fear at all.....not trying to sound tough but my feelings were fuck him !
