A long time ago (2008ish?) i posted a pic and video of me squatting 635 at 220.

I've benched 430 at 242 pounds.

Pulled 715 at 242 pounds.

All in powerlifting competitions.

Don't really care anymore.

I can't do it today, right now, so doesn't count.

Very strong lifts.

Thanks Rob, i was one of the weaker guys in the group i trained with. One of the guys did close grip benches with 455 for reps. Squats in the 700's, etc.

There are some very strong men out there.

Well, i have the 200 pounds part at least. ;D

I haven't tried a max attempt on anything in probably 8 years.

No point really, my joints hate me and i don't need anymore injuries.

English do you speak or aint no one got time for kilogram bullshit what are you sometype of communist?

even someone as dumb as me can multiply times two and get an idea of what it is in American pounds.  I know it is 2.2 lbs per kilo graam but I cannot do the little number very easy wihtouto a calcualtor.  You probably can because you are smart!  And I think you are just kidding around with us here!

I'm curious to know specifically what Van Bilderass meant when he said he was too insecure to post a 770-lb deadlift video.  :o

It's more the physique that is embarrassing. Not that I ever said otherwise  :D

Matt, the two accessories that helped me the most in the deadlift were deficit deads and good mornings. If you want to stop hitching, deficit deadlifts will almost certainly fix that. You don't have think about it it just "corrects" itself. Good morning are just a great way to train all the same muscles involved. You can train your trunk stability with them too, just inhale to the max, flex and push your abs as hard as you can into the belt if you use a belt, do the rep and breathe out.

Most of the time I didn't use a belt, just when I played with a deadlift suit or did a max single. It might be why I herniated my ab wall.

I think you can increase your dead quite a bit. It just takes time and being stubborn even when things don't seem to move.

Some of us Euros have memorized both. Allso the American 45s are just 44lbs here (20kg instead of 20.4kg) but I know a Euro 4 plate bench is just 400 instead of 405lbs in America and so on. :D

I surely appreciate the kind words, however my strength was certainly in a somewhat “narrow range of power”. I was (and still am on a limited basis) a competitive powerlifter.

I was pretty good squatting. Solid bench presser. And a solid Deadlifter.

My all time competition PR’s were…

Squat 766
Bench Press 551
Deadlifts 755

Total 2072 competing in the 125kg/275 pound class.

I was pretty strong at random lifts.

Shrugs 600 x 10
Standing hammer curls 125’s x 10
Close grip bench press 455 x 6 (both hands on the smooth)
Bent over rows 405 x 10
Flat DB press 155 x 12

But lots of guys were much much stronger in many other lifts.

Remember too- for many years, I was powerlifter. A real one. That’s what I did. I should have been good at it.

I remember at power meets the lifts were in kilos and every meathead there would be walking around with a conversion chart in their hand scratching their head.

It’s funny. My very first sanctioned competition was the AAU Kings Classic Power Championships in Charlotte, North Carolina. Summer 1980.

Think I went

390 squat
280 bench
420 deadlift

181 pound class

Shortly after that all competition declared that lifting would be done in kilograms instead of pounds. The leaders of the federations wanted to make powerlifting an international sport not just an American sport- so they thought it would help to use a weight system, the metric system that most of the world used.

As a kid I thought it was a good idea.  All gyms had a kilo conversation chart on the wall and we quickly learned to make the conversion in our heads. All these years later it just seems correct.

People will still be curious. “Hey why did you pull 661 pounds?  Why not just 660?”
I smile and say, “we need to request our lifts in kilos and an even 300 kilograms will equal 661 pounds.”

Did it help make powerlifting more appealing to the world? I think so.

I remember Shawn Perine saying on IronAge, he benched 405 lbs raw, as a 16 year old kid weighing 140 lbs. LOL   ::) ::)
That's crazy, probably on ephedrine, maybe

I don’t know what the powerlifting world looks like now but back in my day those were definitely world class poundages
