Yeah it has been the biggest deal/hype in bodybuilding history to date.... every major  tv outlet at the time was announcing the 1992 Mr.O ,simply because Lou Ferrigno was making a comeback , the tittle was up for grabs since Haney was out of the picture ......

I remember vividly watching Joe Weider with  a straight face on national tv say

' We will X-ray mr. Ferrigno's calves and if he does have implants he will be disqualified and will have to refund the money "

30 years !!!!!

Yeah, glutes and hams were soft, calves were full of something.  Definitely full of shit.

But everything else looked incredible.

His comeback was odd. He looked great in the open Olympia but placed like 10th then went to the Masters O and lost to Robby and looked a little stringy Definitelynot as good as he did in the open the previous year. Then he was gone from tge stage again. So his entire pro career was what? 4 shows? The 74 O the 75 O the 93 O and the 94 Masters O?

He's achieved an astonishing level of fame for a guy who only did 4 pro shows and was on a laughably bad TV series that was canceled 40 years ago. Not to mention his movie career which would've sunk anyone else's career.  I mean his films aren't just bad. They're horrible.

Obligatory Louie video. I’ll work on a new Louie/Matty video later

"Arnolds got spaghetti arms Louie"
"Boom, Look at this hunk of man, you try it Louie"   ::)
"Louie liked to read the Muscle Books"...
I’ll be sure to work all of these classic lines in there

There was only one pro show in the IFBB back in the day: The Olympia. That's why a number of bodybuilders competed in NABBA as well.

The Incredible Hulk was considered a successful series, running six seasons. For comic book aficionados, it was the first time a Marvel Comics character actually crossed over successfully on TV (although, the executive director said he had to de-couple some of the series from the comic book roots. Hence, one of the reasons the character's name was changed from Bruce Banner to David Banner).

You may recall that Ferrigno's 90s comeback was originally with the WBF. But, three months before the 1992 championship (and "coincidentally" when the WBF started their strict drug policy), Ferrigno bailed. He competed in the 1992 Olympia, where he placed 12th.

He went to the WBF. But, he left before the 1992 championship. Again, it was around the time the feds were breathing down McMahon's neck and he started drug-testing for everything but the kitchen sink. Mike Christian claimed he lost a month's pay ($25,000) for popping positive.

I recall numbers for Ferrigno, to the tune of 2 years, $900,000. I forget if that what McMahon offered him or what Weider offered him.

Once Ferrigno was gone, McMahon tried to salvage having a 14th guy in the WBF by bringing in Lawrence Phofl bka Lex Luger.

Luger was to co-host WBF BodyStars with McMahon and Cory Everson's baby sister, Cameo Kneuer (2-time Ms Fitness USA). "The Total Package" was also supposed to be the guest poser at the 1992 show. But, he got into a motorcycle wreck that nearly cost him his right arm. Check Luger out at 1:06.

Was McMahon trying to slip the fans a mickey? I just noticed during the hype package of the 1992 Championship "Who Will It Be?", they flashed the logos of the WBF BodyStar competitors. Included in those logos was that of Lex Luger.

Was McMahon going to let Luger compete at that show, after promoting him as a mere guest poser? Considering he built the 1992 WBF Championship around a clash between Lou Ferrigno and WBF champion, Gary Strydom, it wouldn't surprise me if he had plans of doing a "celebrity" entrant.

Remember how HUGE he looked in the the three Hulk TV movies, especially "The Incredible Hulk Returns".

I worked out, with Platz, a couple times around Lou during those comeback years.

In the gym, in shorts and a tank, a couple dozen pounds above his stage weight, the man was IMPRESSIVE. Absolutely huge.

Of course, on stage, it mostly fell apart. A battle thong can very negatively affect the “lines” of a bodybuilder.

(Needless to say, Loutard was an unlikeable doink, just as he had been the other times we’d met or had spoken on the phone.)

What a simpleton.  Big Louser.

I forgot how good Boyer Coe looked in that first Masters O. That first one was a neat concept but a few years later when Vince Taylor started winning it and Sonny Schmidt were in it it kind of killed it. Those guys did well in the open what was the point if not to give some of greats one last dance.

Phone calls are hard for lip readers.

Louie was only an infant in the crib,

and he developed this ear infection.

We didn't know it at the time until Louie was about three years old, we found out that he was hard of hearing.

That's why he never took an interest in things... other kids would take an interest in, like television.
He was late learning to speak and everything.

Louie became a lip  reader.

Is that why he never took an interest in being a decent human being?

MCWAY,

Do you understand that you, rocket, and myself are all 5'9" and range from 200-220 pounds?

All three of us are heavyweight manlets.

Also, did you see this Dave Palumbo interview with Rich Gaspari, where he discusses Vince McMahon and the WBF contracts, and discusses the rift with the IFBB and Joe Weider at the time?

It starts at the 19 minute mark:

I saw Louie waaaaaay back before he was even known out of NYC.

If you read the book Pumping Iron when Lou showed up in Holyoke Mass. at I believe it was Ed Jubinvilles IFBB Jr. Mr. America ( I could be mistaken he ran 3-4 contests per year) it seemed you could see him a mile away .....he towered over the huge crowd that had gathered around him .

He was so massive that he had to wear a mechanics or a gas station attendants type of uniform/outfit.....otherwise he probably couldn`t find much that would fit him......then he had on a pair of sunglasses to boot as if he was a movie star no one fucking knew him unless they lived in NYC.

Anyway,he was fucking hugely impressive to me at the time because he was HUGELY IMPRESSIVE!!

Once he saw Warren Fredericks and then Leon Brown who took every single trophy that day and made it in the book Pumping Iron,Louie just up and disappeared.

They announced Leon as the class winner, then the overall contest winner....and then they gave out "best bodyparts" awards back in those days....Leon Brown....BEST CHEST.....Leon Brown.....BEST ABS.....Leon Brown.....BEST ARMS....."hey Leon just stay on stage you won every fucking trophy there is to win"!!   :D

The 175 pound Leon Brown would have blew Louie away, and Louie knew it that`s why he left.

FUCK LOUIE!!   LOL  ;D
