That's the question. In NY, along with every other current Liberal Utopia, there's this dichotomy of blindly hating the police- as a kind vaguely defined militant arm of conservatism (at least in the liberal mind the police are a tool and a creation of the straight, white, Christian, male, conservative and therefore Evil) yet at the same time begining to see and fear the (although not acknowledge) the violent crime thats exploding as a result of Liberal government policies and Liberal criminal justice system. So people, including politicians, journalists and voters are becoming more and more concerned about the relative lawlessness yet aren't intelligent enough to make the connection to the Liberal policies that have neutered Law Enforcement.
In short it depends on the judge, jury and media coverage. It helps that the cop was black. You know all of the aforementioned love to ignore it when black men beat the shit out of black women.
