HRT & TRT Experiences
« on: September 04, 2022, 06:36:02 AM »
Age has caught up and I get my hormone levels tested this week.  I'm looking for opinions on folk's HRT/TRT experiences.   Worth it?  Pain in the ass to maintain?  Things to watch for?

Best delivery system?  I dont really want to drive to town weekly for a shot or be dependent on a nurse to deliver it.  I hear there's a chewable 3 times a day option and of course the gel patches.

Pros and Cons?

Pinning it yourself is a piece of cake. Normally the Doc/Nurse will show you how. (Takes liternally 1-minute to do).
Long acting ester (cyp or eth) even once a week works. Some will split that into twice a week for less high's/low's.
Very simple.

All that other stuff sounds like a PIA (gel's, chewables??)  ???

I was on it for about 10 years.Got my doc to write a script and I pinned myself. She did bloodwork twice a year.Every now and then she would skip the bloodwork and I wouldn’t argue. You have to have a pretty good relationship with your doctor you can’t just show up one day and say give me test. I got off it about a year and half ago for health reasons.Blood was thick as shit even after doing things to thin it out. I am 63 and going forward with thick blood doesn’t sound like a good idea

Appreciate the info!  I didnt realize I could do the pinning myself...assumed it had to be done at a doctor's office.

Very smart to get off of it if blood thickens with age and use.
I monitor mine closely, 4 times a years (bloods). All  my stuff stays in range. I always ran a bit high (hematocrit=48) even before TRT.
(I do .5 cc a week only (125 mg's).

I stay at 48 now (hematocrit), but I do two low dose (coated) aspirins a day along with the TRT. Anything changes with age, I'm gladly jumping off.
Right now things are OK at age 56 w/ it.

Like any medication (or "bio-identicals")  :o you have to monitor this stuff closely.

yes very good to keep a close watch on things. I was donating and taking aspirin but still every time I gave blood the girl would twist and jerk the damn thing and always say “you sure got thick blood “ I was doing everything short of taking blood thinning medicine and if it came to that it didn’t make sense to stay on so I reluctantly got off.
I might add that since I got off about a year and half ago my blood flows very easy now and bp is down.

I certainly have no moral objections to Test. I messed around with Deca and Anavar back in the day. That said it seems like eventually something happens that forces you to come off. Vince is a pretty good example.

Don`t be afraid to pin yourself.....I was at first.....it`s not a big deal at all.

I started my own TRT at 100 mgs. per week because a local clinic said they could provide it but when I went there they then said they couldn`t......fucking morons.

So after seeing my therapist she sent a rererral to them....haven`t been there yet but if they find my Test levels higher because of my own self administration I`ll probably be fucked.....we`ll see.

Haven`t been on it long enough to provide any feedback good or bad........sorry.

Its great honestly. But again, its not a "be all end all" that some think, where youre gonna grow new muscle, etc.
Its probably letting me hang on to what I have, but I did not gain any size/strength. I also trained for 38 years Natty before that.
Where of course a noob will put on some muscle w/ it. (Probably).

Just feel better all around (for now)...

Ive been on it for probably 10 years. First with creme which was annoying to deal with. Went to Testopel pellets about 8 years ago. I see the doctor every 3.5 months for pellets. In and out in about 45 min and insurance covers all but $300. Some years it covers 100%. I'm happy with it.

Consider using insulin pins to inject subcutaneous.  Less/minimal nerve damage & scar tissue build up compared to intramuscular injection.  27ga are available online and make pinning very easy.

E: I'd probably do pellets if the choice was there

This….this is the best way. I was pushing oil through true insulin syringes after pulling out the plunger and backloading it. Just have to have strong thumb muscles. My values ever changed going from muscle to fat injections.

Have you tried everything else - getting your wind, strength, diet, sleep etc in good shape?  Ever tried real Tongkat Ali, shit like that?

I'd explore all that stuff before deciding on TRT.

15 yrs no issues but you have to be willing to do the work. Eat clean, cardio, labs, etc.

Tried a lot of stuff.  Was doing ok till covid put me in the ICU for a month last year.  Since then everything has fallen off a cliff...energy, stamina, libido, mental focus.  HRT would be in combination with vitamin therapy and possible some adjustments to the thyroid.

Covid put you in ICU….obviously a very unhealthy individual, forget about TRT.

I’ve been on about 7 years. I’m early 40’s and honestly probably started too early but not sure I’ll go off for a long time. Realistically, I’ll only go off when I see it’s detrimental to my health. I tried the gel for about a year and didn’t like it, especially since my youngest was in diapers and I changed them. I went to shots, around 160mg week, about six years ago. I get blood work at least twice a year but most of the time it’s three times since I get an annual physical too. Only issue I have is my red blood cell count gets high, around 18, so I donate blood every 60 days and have no problems. I’ve also had three “executive physicals, every two years for the last five years and will do another in January. Those are a two day physical complete with everything from blood work, to nuclear stress tests and calcium scoring among other things. I’m healthy, even cholesterol is down. I do cardio four to six times a week and exercise with not much more than body weight. I think my size is a little exaggerated for the amount of work I put in because of the test, but this far I would recommend it. I’d also weigh all other factors and discuss them all, even things you might be embarrassed about, before getting on it.

Never lie to your doctor or lawyer.
