I don't think depending on Mexico to build a wall is a good idea. The more people in the middle the more waste. Any incentives given to Mexico will go through corruption and graft and only the remainder will be spent on what we want. Sure we have our own corruption but less middlemen means less waste. If there is a wall to be built we should build our own, though I'm not sure that solves the problem.

One way to solve the problem is to remove the incentive. That would mean no benefits to being here illegally. That means stricter penalties and enforcement against hiring people here illegally, more deportations once found, no emergency medical services, etc. That is probably unpalatable to many voters and might agitate an important voting block so I doubt it happens.

The other way to remove the incentive is to bring up their standard of living up to ours. That won't happen for at least a century I'd bet.

I don't think there is an easy answer. Desantis sending them up to the northeast forces the issue into his opponents face and rallies his base for a future national election. I think it is a smart political move.

I actually sponsored two Vietnamese families 14 years ago. Was dating (almost married her) a Vietnamese girl and helped sponsor some of her relatives. But it is very expensive, and you are responsible for them to a certain extent, at least for a little while.

Also, you can donate your time and money to helping any local "migrants" in your area. It's really easy to do.

I don't give money, but i have helped build two shelters here in southern NM (the poorest state in America) and have donated a lot of food to those in need.
