Order a new Tesla?

I’m toying with the idea of getting another car next year when the economy turns to shit (and hopefully not me with it!).

Cool cars were in my list but I’m thinking the sensible choice is a new Tesla Y performance.

An electric car would essentially be our local town car and we would sell whatever one of the other 2 cars we used the least. The Merc used 20.1L/100km on the school drop off this morning lol 😂

We are installing a 40kwh solar system on our house which I know will easily have enough spare to charge the car. So the whole ‘free fuel’ thing is a big incentive aswell.

Does anyone own a Tesla? Or have friends that have them?  Wait time is 9 months or so.

Combustion engine motorbikes are phased out here by 2030. I believe combustion engine cars are out by 2035. It’s a 9 month wait for a Model Y here and no doubt that is going to blow out until price rises hit harder.

I’ll admit the Tesla’s are a badass looking car but other than that, electric vehicles don’t do shit as far “green energy” as a matter of fact they’re no better and in some ways worse than combustion engines. People like Couch hear rhetoric like "the electricity you're charging your car comes from coal power stations" and get stuck there and blame politics. They are unable to think for themselves or work out that going forward most of the electricity will be generated by renewables.

In reality this has nothing to do with going carbon neutral and pandering to lefties.

The tech required to make solar and wind energy viable (highly profitable) isn't very far off. Nuclear energy will also become sexy again. Battery technology has vastly improved and will continue to do so.

This isn't about going green, it's about the bottom line. They will be a far more profitable business by going electric as demand for petrol powered vehicles will dry up. It will just be something for enthusiasts, kinda like those who get off on steam engines.

Renewables are raking in obscene profit  right now and nuclear is sexy again.

How fast do you need to go? I got a 700 horsepower pickup truck that goes 0-60 in slightly under 4 seconds, sounds fucking awesome loud as fuck. No need for any faster than that.when I hit the gas people shit themselves. What’s the point in going fast with no sound? I know to each their own but I need noise with my speed,haha.

I own a Model 3, very happy with it. I probably won't use it much in the snow as I've heard the real wheel models are not good in that type of weather. It is comfortable, roomy, lots of nice features. Very fast too. Simply order it via the website, $250 deposit. I waited 6 months.

The way a car "looks" is also a reflection of society.

With Tesla cars, it is about the money. They look like Civics or Corrolas.  It's all about "I have a Tesla electric car!"

The majority of people who own EV's charge via electric grid powered by coal etc.  I'm sure electric vehicles have a market in the city. Other than that.. it won't end well.  Hauling gear or a trailer will kill the range on a battery.

There will not be enough renewable resources to sustain a worldwide transportation conversion.

Also once the battery loses it's power holding capabilities. Throw away the Tesla and buy another one. No longevity.  Used batteries will be a toxic problem as well .

Anything the government endorses stay clear of it.
