But in 2016, Trump defeated at least SEVEN former two-term GOP governors (popular ones, too): Bush (FL), Huckabee (AR), Perry (TX), Jindal (LA), Kasich (OH), Christie (NJ), Pataki (NY).

That's assuming DeSantis actually runs. Win, lose, or draw, this is it for Donald Trump.

TBH Trumpy just faced a bunch of chumps in the primary then.  Trumpy has never faced a guy like DeSantis who is nothing but Trump 2.0 who has manners, tact, and knows how to keep his mouth shut.   This is like the Sith where you have one Emperor and one apprentice and it is the apprentice's job to overthrow the Emperor at some point.  DeSantis has the popularity and numbers at this point to carry everything minus the legal entanglements and other bullshit that Duhnold has.

Underestimating Trump cost a lot of folks money. Plus, we're now talking about a former president. Then, there's the question of just how well DeSantis actually fares outside Florida.

Again, how many people will be in this GOP primary and how many will be solidly behind him. With the winner-take-all primaries, the more the anti-Trump votes get split, the more it favors Trump.
