IF it's true that he only took dbol during his bodybuilding pageant days.

He wasn't too far off from Frank Zane (who was most likely on 8x more gear), had good proportions, size, arms, frame...
Who here has been as muscular as Vince was with dbol only? Not me.
Very impressive.

(Would've been good if I posted a pic of him flexing right here, but I cbf going through all that trouble)

HOWEVER

These days.. oh boy......
Delusional beyond belief. Thinks his fat (which he loves calling "safety fat". Like he legit thinks he needs it and it's healthy) = muscle. Thinks he's in better shape than "skinny" Frank Zane. He doesn't realize that his Roseanne-like bod would get demolished on stage today by an anorexic 10yo girl (she'd have him on conditioning and that's all it'd take because he has nothing).

What don't you agree with?
You think Zane was more impressive than Vince? Zane was what, 5% better while using 1000% more drugs.
Phil? Every PED under the sun and in the end, his pecs were half as wide as Vince's chesticles.
You know how "big" Phil would be running only a bit of dbol? Like 165lbs max.

Here is a comparison I posted a while back on Facebook. Had I moved to LA instead of Sydney I would have been motivated to train harder.  By the way, the 'safety fat' thing was a joke. Some bodybuilder said it was good to keep an extra 10 pounds in case he got sick then he wouldn't lose as much muscle. I can tell you it is difficult to be motivated to lose fat when you are in your seventies or eighties. Your metabolism slows so enjoying desserts can be costly.

Nope. Just stating facts.  Vince is more impressive than these multiple Mr. O winners.

Vince had a complete physique, good symmetry and proportion. Just needs to be a bit leaner.

Imagine:
- Frank Zane and Phil Heath on Vince Basile's dbol-only cycle. They'd be twinks.
- Vince Basile on Frank Zane's cycle. He would've been Ahnold/Ferrigno/Mentzer size.
- Vince Basile on Phil Heath's protocols. He would've been Ramy's size.

All facts.

Yep. And he easily would've been if he was on say 1200mg of primo EW, 80mg of anavar ED, 100mg of proviron a day, as much hgh as he could handle... Would've been a lean-mean-Mr. O-killing-machine.

Only difference between him and these Mr. O's is PEDs. He wasn't willing to push it. He should've.

All the proof is there in Vince's pic.

What's the difference between them physique wise? Frank was a bit leaner. Big deal.
What's the difference between them PEDs wise? Let's see..
Frank was probably on around 2.5g every week worth of deca, primobolan, masteron, anavar, winstrol, anadrol and proviron.
Vince was on dbol.

Vince would've built far more muscle and been leaner had he taken everything that Frank did.

After the 1970 Mr Canada contest in Vancouver, BC., I was at English Bay Beach where I hung out. I met Dr Michael Walczak who was the LA doctor many bodybuilders went to for advices. He said I looked good and if I came to LA and took Deca Durabolin under his supervision I could be a Mr Universe in 6 months. I was more interested in clearing up my acne! We talked for a while and he told me about the gayness of many of the champion bodybuilders he knew. I didn't know whether to believe him or not. He mentioned guys we all know. Anyway, I invited him to dinner at my place but he lost interest when I told him about my wife, Roz! So I never did go to LA to follow my dream. No way I was interested in risking my health. Taking two Dianabol tablets a day was the most I have taken. Did that on 3 occasions. Got immediate response then very little later. I didn't up the dose. My health meant more to me than titles and trophies. Today I am in good health except for a bit of high blood pressure. I have to lose some weight but not so easy. Well, easy to do but not so easy to achieve when someone cooks yummy meals.

Man.. you should've gone for it. You had a golden ticket to glory/greatness/gayness and rejected it.
A gram of deca for 3 months with some anavar sprinkled on top wouldn't have killed you.
So many of you guys are too paranoid about PEDs and so many are on the other side.. no fucks given all you can eat hormona buffet.

I should have done a lot of things, like obtained a PhD. Lots of things I shouldn't have done. Too late now.  I tried to to live in LA but  Roz couldn't nurse there. When she got pregnant in 1970 I had to find a job so emigrated to Sydney where I taught high school for 10 years. Bought a gym in August 1971 and a home the same year.  Started making gym equipment in 1981.

When you get to 70 you don't want to fool around with anything that might shorten your life. More so at 80! To me that includes steroids and other bodybuilding agents. I take Vitamin C and D when I remember and Magnesium tablets to prevent cramps. No protein or other stuff. Just meals.

Sports scientists tell us we lose muscle size and strength as we age. Well, not for everyone and not for guys like me who does hypertrophy training once a week for arms. Imagine my surprise to find my triceps larger than when I was at my peak in 1975. Stronger, too. If I did not tear my right biceps doing a silly dead lift with 509 pounds I might be able to get my arms larger. They are stuck around 18 inches. I wonder why the other older bodybuilders haven't got arms the same size as when they were at their peak. It is possible.

That's good. I too take Vit.C&D and magnesium every now and then. Vitamin D in the winter is a must. Recently started taking zinc too.

I've never been a fan of deadlifts. Saw/learnt early on how stupid, pointless and dangerous it is. Seems the only thing people gain from it is injuries and a bit of strength. Just not worth it.

Vince.. there's a huge difference between a fatty natty 18" arm and a roided up, lean, dry, muscular 18" arm. 2 different things. 2 different worlds.
No bodybuilder can maintain his/her muscle mass after coming off PEDs. Fat is another story. How big do you think your arms would be if you were 8% bf now?

I could care less about getting lean. Neither do I want to look like Frank Zane who is now an old fart who looks thin and frail. I have tried to get my arms bigger a few times in the last 25 years. They stop at 18 cold. No interest in drugs, either. Nor hormone replacement therapy. I am just amazed that I can keep my size at my age. Hypertrophy is a wonderful gift of evolution.

Frank Zane isn't thin. Frank was in shape for decades, even as an old man. You haven't kept any size. There is no size/muscle there. Your body today isn't superior to his. You just have more fat. Fat isn't impressive. Fat isn't muscle mass. Putting on fat isn't hypertrophy. If the fat from your arms magically disappeared, your arms would be 13.4". You should care about getting leaner because it's healthier, you'd look better and you'll live longer. I'm not trying to be a dick to you and am sorry if I offended you. Just telling it like it is.

There once was an old bodybuilder from down under,
With biceps that bulged and muscles that thunder,
He loved his pinch grip machines and biceps supinators,
And the blue stars that sparkled on his trainers.

His Porsche car was his pride and joy,
He loved to drive it fast, oh boy!
But when he wasn't at the gym,
He'd spend his time in internet fights, oh so grim.

He'd type and rant and curse and swear,
With a fury that would make you stop and stare,
But his love for the gym never wavered,
He'd lift and pump and flex forever.

Though his hair was gray and his body old,
His spirit was strong and his muscles bold,
He was the old bodybuilder from Australia,
A true champion of muscle and strength, oh so glorious.

Good luck looking like that age 80
I find Vince bit of a weirdo, trapped in the past, he seems to lack processing power, he definitely isn't low on the iq, but his eq is seriously lower end.
He still feel the sting of Zane's words, how Arnold pushed him aside, how things could be different and such.

I’ll say it again those are very impressive arms for 80, Zane doesn’t look like he ever lifted at this point.
