They weren’t vaxed for Covid or flu either.

They were type one diabetic though, and every virus they ever caught had taken longer and longer to recover from compared to the last one.

Female is all anyone else around me is calling my child right now since it is technically still a pending cause of death and they just had a full autopsy yesterday. Maybe that is why I said that I don’t know. Grammar is not a big deal right now.

I have a 13-year-old myself [girl], and my son will be 13 in March. I can't imagine losing them at that age.

Diabetes or not, this must be an absolute shock. My condolences, jwb.

The more reading I do the more it seems the diabetes may not have been totally to blame. There are article after article out there of kids with zero apparent issues dying within three days of contracting influenza. There have been 6 kids in British Columbia just this flu season.

They equate it more to the Spanish flu response in 1918 where most who died were young and healthy and their body mounted TOO strong a defense to the H1N1 influenza virus.

There is nothing more painful than losing one's child. So sorry for your wife's and your loss. 

As I am sure you already know, the risk of serious illness from the flu is higher among folks of all ages with type 1 diabetes.

My daughter is 2 and had a couple of trips to the hospital this year. I can even fathom the thought  of losing her at any age. It's not something I would ever recover from. Condolences to Jwb and yourself.
