If the hearing/show trial was legit he would have had his say and would have been defended..as it were he didn’t get his due process (all facts here, Junior) in a 100% partisan fake hearing. The primary one was to do an investigation into what led up to and caused the attack on the Capitol and our Democracy so that we can hopefully prevent it from happening again
The findings of the special committee also likely jumpstarted or at least assisted the  DOJ into starting their own investigations. 
They also served the public by having multiple public hearings that had huge viewership of ~ 18 to 20 million.  By comparison Fox News had an average of 1.4 million primetime viewers in November of 2022.   

Bonus points given for the multiple criminal referrals to DOJ and having all the evidence collected by the Special Committee made public and handed over to DOJ
