fuck, im probably in my best winter shape in years but i have been pushing the envelope more alot more than normal... no reason besides i like to bodybuild... great workouts, happy w diet, gear, everything.... sucks because this is a hobby for me.. obviously, it has come w costs... but yeah ill still be just as happy at a lower weight.. never saw this day coming this soon lol...

Eating very low carb is not bad when you get used to it.  Took me about a month or two to really feel good with it.

You eat a lot of fat so you feel full.

Mainly I just eat meat, eggs, and cheese with a salad or green veggie a few times a week.

On the weekend I loosen up a little and have a bagel or two.

Also I have a few whiskies or vodkas during the week.

Berberine works pretty much like Metaformin and is a natural product if the Metaformin disagrees with you, the doc wont tell you about it because its a herbal supplement

I had a conversation with a researcher who believes that even lots of weight, even muscular, can bring on Type 2...He contends that your body  is capable of only keeping so much volume/mass of a human body healthy...so that if you are say 250lbs and hugely strong...your size still works against you.

i also use 3-4 iu of pharm grade hgh per day.... i have for years.... is that out the window too????

40-60 carbs may do it tbh. Sugar alcohols, fiber etc dont count.

GH increases insulin resistance so I would cut it out.

Metformin is quite weak but activates something called AMPK which has life extension properties and is worth taking simply for that. Ozempic is fantastic and will get you within range, you HBA1C is not even that bad dude, seriously. Most patients come in with 10-11.

Once you get fat adapted you shouldn't be flat tbh. It's just that until you are you are struggling to utilize ketones effectively. You will still be flat mind you but not that stringy shit look if your fats remain high.

A 37" waist at 5'6" should be an indication that your health isn't great.  Diabetes being the only problem is a surprise at this point.

I know you don't want to stop lifting as you know it.  It is what you know and like and eliminating it will make it feel like your life isn't worth living.  But realistically you have to acknowledge :
1-  You are not turning pro
2-  You are not performing at a professional level in any sport
3-  You are not making money off your body like a model or OnlyFans content creator

So adjusting your gym patterns are only beneficial to you.  If you go the low carb route you are going to feel like shit for a long time until you mentally adjust to that and overcome it through will power.  When your weight starts coming down, it will probably lead to depression.   But just keep in mind that you are losing "the gym" you are actually gaining "more life".  Don't be one of these that stick to old patterns simply for the comfort they bring.

Wishing you the best man.  Follow what the doctors tell you.  Ask questions.  Read fellow gym warriors experiences and results on different boards.  Learn as much as you can on your own.

Weight training should definitely be part of your strategy going forward but cardio should be just as important.

Dr Roy Taylor is the guy who finally figured out type two diabetes. Look him up on YouTube. He found that every type two diabetic becomes that way when they reach their personal fat threshold. This is when your subcutaneous fat is maxed out and you start storing fat inside your liver and pancreas causing insulin resistance and diabetes.

Now, the personal fat threshold is just that, personal or unique. People from Asia reach it at way lower body weights than Europeans that is why diabetes is so rampant in India for instance. Skinny people who brag they can never gain weight and eat like they want and never exercise are simply storing their excess energy in their visceral fat which is really unhealthy. Energy is matter, it simply doesn’t disappear, it has to go somewhere and even if these skinny people have a high resting metabolic rate they can still easily surpass it.

Therefore, it is simply a disease of long term excess energy consumption which is what has happened to you.

If you want to reverse it and not have to take medications at all it is probably still possible if you do it early enough. I caught mine pretty early once my fasting glucose went over 100 consistently I knew I was headed for trouble. (My daughter was type one diabetic so I tested my own blood once in a while).

What did I do? I got lean as I could as fast as I could. I went from 245lbs at 6’3” to 175lbs in six months and all the symptoms disappeared. My fasting blood glucose is now 85 and an ultrasound shows no fatty liver anymore.

My waist went down to 32”

Do you have to cut out all carbs? I didn’t. I just counted calories every single day and never cheated on my set out diet once in that time period.

I eat lean ground beef, chicken breast, eggs, white rice, sweet potatoes, carrots, avocado, red pepper, cucumbers, zucchini, cauliflower, mushrooms.

My macros are about 33% protein, 33% carbs, 33% fat.

I lost all the weight eating around 2000 calories per day and now maintain on about 2400 calories.

I do fasted cardio 4 days a week and a basic dumbbell circuit 3 days a week. My days of being bulked are over.

What about buying and using a CGM for a couple months?

You can see in real time what's going on...

Type 2 is completely reversable through diet alone. Stay away from carbs and seed oils

Don't panic.

You need to make changes in your diet.

12-14% bf at 5'6" and 218?  You are kidding yourself unless you are slamming gear and cutting for a show.

218 is way too heavy for your height of 5'6".

What to do:

Drastically lower carb consumption.  No processed foods, no grains, no flour, no sugar.

Go on a very low carb, moderate protein, high fat diet.  No more than 50g carbs a day.  Doing this will lean you up.

A keto or carnivore diet.

Waist size should be no more than 1/2 height.  So check that out.

Your waist should be no more than 33".  Measured at navel.

No need for all those drugs they prescribed you which will likely just mess you up more.

>

Best foods to eat:

Meat, eggs, fish
Non-starch vegetables (green like broccoli)
Berries (but sparingly)
Cheese (not processed cheese), cream
Nuts, seeds
Butter, healthy oils (No canola, soybean, peanut, etc.) Use extra virgin olive oil.

Foods not to eat:

Juices
Fruit (not often)
Flour products
Grains (rice, wheat, cereals, etc.)
Sugars
Low fat foods
Trans fats (hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated foods)
Processed foods

7 foods not to eat - Dr. Ken Berry:

Pizza
Waffles, pancakes & syrup
Pasta
Hamburgers (buns and toppings are bad)
Hotdogs (buns and toppings are bad)
Angel food cake
Chicken nuggets
(Don't eat grains, sugars, vegetable oils)

I'm with you for everything right up to the Angel Food Cake.  That's such an oddly specific thing to require being cut out.

Lot of good advice from knowledgeable posters in this thread.

Lay off the supplements and clamp down on your diet.

Get that weight off and kick this shit out of your life!

Think of your family and get to work….. Good luck to you…..

Glad to hear it tatoo. You got told what was up and fixed it. I got told basically the same thing and since have gained 30-40 lbs. I just don’t give a fuck at all. Wish I could. I went to keto fasting a couple weeks back and lost 30 lbs of water then said fuck it and gained it all back.

Good job! Everyone with Type II should do this but most don't have the discipline.
