A lot of poor decisions from the 1940's on (laws, policies, financial institutions,  military,  personal decisions,  natural developments,  pollution, anything and everything) had accumulated and kind of reached critical mass.

But when social media came along the negative impacts of all these unrelated things suddenly became connected and accelerated the rate of social decay. It just went off the deep end.

To probably over simplify it it would be comfort. When we’re struggling to put food on the table and provide shelter we have no time for anything else but survival as a species, with all that taken care of the last 100 yrs we are now focusing on social causes, diversity, and equity. Things that cannot be done when we’re struggling. History is a cycle and it is repeating, we have peaked and now we’re falling.

It changes the way people behaved for years and actually slowed up the Industrial Age.
