I don't understand the bad rap on sodium...

I get that too much sodium is bad if you're preparing for a contest but otherwise cuz you don't want to look bloated, but isn't water retention good otherwise? I don't know the in's and out's of creatine, but creatine makes you retain water as well, right? And that is supposed to be good for muscles, to help them recover faster from workouts. So what's the deal with sodium?
P.R.: ate four lbs p-butter in 3 days

Sodium is not bad....
In the human body, sodium works in conjunction with potassium to balance the body’s water. It also is integral to the conduction of nerve impulses and the contraction of muscles. Its when you over do it, it becomes a problem.

Excessive sodium (unfortunately, practically any) raises the blood pressure too high.
