PPL vs. Old-School Split
« on: March 26, 2023, 03:25:15 AM »
I notice many modern-day gym-beasts and IG "experts" making fun of, or criticizing old-school training splits. ("Bro-splits" as they say).
Then they pump-up and promote PPL like its the new savior in training methods.

Then you compare them and they can be almost identical.

Old-School:

Chest/Tri's (push)
Back/Bi's (pull)
Legs/Delts (Legs+)

The iron-beasts of today are comical, basically criticizing and laughing at themselves.

PPL Sample
The most common configuration of a PPL training program is as follows;

Monday - Push (chest, triceps, deltoids, etc.)
Tuesday - Pull (back, biceps)
Wednesday - Legs (legs, occasionally core muscles as well)
Thursday - Recovery Day
Friday - Push (chest, triceps, deltoids, etc.)
Saturday - Pull (back, biceps)
Sunday - Legs (legs, occasionally core muscles as well)

They move the smallest body-part around (delts) and invented a whole new training method.  ???

Another thing I noticed, the pre-hab stuff. While some is good of course, I notice some spending an hour on this.
Walking around sideways w/ rubber-bands on ankles). etc.
And at our place, they are the most injured. (From torn ab-wall / hernia, to problem hips, etc). And they are young.
We did quick 5-min warmups back in the day, some stretches and warmup sets. Wasnt a big deal and I dont remember lots of injuries.
People knew how to train smart and basic.

Thank god for social media, gives us some stuff to laugh at.  ::)

Jus a small rant while I have coffee, carry on Getbiggers, and happy Sunday! (Or MON if you are somewhere where its MON).

Yes today the people talking are so full of shit and people believe them. OLD SCHOOL is the best and it works. PERIOD. The guys did some warm up stuff then did weight increases as they went up. Usually 5 sets on each exercise. with usually 2 per bodypart. ( one compound and one isolation) Sometimes 3 but really never more than that. They split it up ppl or chest and back shoulders one day ( that was alot) and then legs and arms the next . rested then repeated. Of course there are variations to everything. The guys then hardly ever got injured. They didn't push weights to the extreme. They wanted to build muscle wasn't worried about how much they benched per se. They had off season workouts and on season workouts and also pre contest ( usually double splits and 6 days a week) Then after a show they took time off or just went lightly a few times a week. They did 2 hour workouts or close to it. All this 45 minute workout shit is because they want the trainers to charge by the hour. THAT is it. They can say science says testosterone drops after 45 minutes all the fuck they want. Not true. Look at the old school guys. Did their test drop after 2 hours twice a day 6 days a week?  NOOO. Yes they had "help" but look at how they looked! Compare them to todays blobs of crap.  The barbarian brothers used to say there is no such thing as "overtraining". Just under eating and under sleeping!  They were right. The human body can take lots of physical punishment. Gymnasts. Track athletes. construction workers, roofers etc. Remember football practice?  Doing twice a days 5 times a week? Plus weight training. Did you die or shrival up?  NO. It was hard it was rough but the body adapts .  So give me OLD SCHOOL training anyday!

Imagine telling your high school coach you felt like you were being overtrained or your CNS was burnt out  ;D you'd be doing stadiums the whole practice.

Better get a Personal Trainer to count your reps.

You are absolutely right GymnJuice! Stadiums the who practice if we complained. BUT guess what? It worked. No one even got weaker from all that. And notice we didn't do that training year round. After football we weight trained and or did other sports too. Could you imagine a world class olympic sprinter come to practice run a 440 for as fast as he could one time and then say "ok coach I will be back in 3 days for another run".  LMAO. Bodybuilding is the same thing. Workout hard and often. Don't try to to cheat and buy into this crap about training every full moon on a monday but never on the weekend shit. Your body doesn't know what day it is. It doesn't even know how much the weights actually weigh. It doesn't care. It will adapt to anything ( almost) give it rest( sleep) and food ( good clean food it can use) and ball busting workouts and you will grow. Throw some drugs in there and you will really grow. These clowns now days don't want to work they just want drugs to do it for them. And they all look like shit. So if you are trying to get bigger eat more lift heavier and basic. Keep it simple. If you have size and want to look good for the beach reduce calories and lighten up the weights and add a few different isolation exercises and maybe some form of cardio. If you are training for a show you take 8 weeks and diet like a madman and work your ass off with every exercise  you can do with lighter weights and do more than one time a day. Minimize cardio because it eats muscle. Pretty simple stuff.
