Time to put the bullshit 80 O conspiracy to rest. Arnold won fair and square, especially since he needed to beat the 185 lb Zane, the champ, as that's what the judges were rewarding at the time.

The fans were cheering.

No network "refused" to show the footage because of any controversy. No network gave a shit about covering it because it was Oct 4th, 1980, the same day as the 4th game of the Phillies Royals World Series and weeks away from the 80 Reagan Carter debate on Oct 28th, 1980. No one gave a shit about bodybuilding.

I think some people got hurt when their gym brother Arnold entered super stardom and left them selling protein powder.

Mentzer was good looking and you know what, he was chatgpt of the day, rambling things he read with limited compeherension and sound interesting with not much practical value (actually chatgpt is way more useful but it’s reasoning can leave lot to be desired)

   These guys all looked good when they were alone. Or hell even when standing beside each other BUT they looked small and some even tiny when they were next to Arnold. Roger Walker, big guy right?  But look at him and the concentration camp looking mentzer next to Arnold in the above side shot. I think Mentzer and Zane both were trying to get as skiny as they could for some reason. Even though he didn't look like the Arnold of the 70's he still looked good enough to beat these guys.  Also there was no cbs news crew filming this. That was Arnolds own crew he brought to film it for him . Arnold only said he was there with cbs as a commentator because people thought he might be entering and they would have dropped out if they knew he was entering. He actually had been training for the Conan movie  and they thought he did it in hopes of helping the movie become popular. BUT that really was bullshit. Any bodybuilder would have seen the movie and no one else really would have seen the magazines and say hey lets go see the conan movie. People then didn't even know what bodybuilding really was. Arnold entered to shut Mentzer the fuck up and put him in his place!  PERIOD!

                                                  Mentzer kept bashing Arnold's training methods saying his was superior. Brief and infrequent Mentzer claimed. So Arnold came back and won BUT he kept saying training his way for "6 " weeks and he won. ( actually we all knew he meant 6 weeks of pre contest training but he wanted others to think "wow he did this in 6 weeks"  Arnolds method must be right) And that shut Mentzer the fuck up. His heavy duty flew out the window and no one believed his bullshit anymore.
