What I posted most recently clarifying what Trump said is not a lie. Why would I be embarrassed?

The three most effective disinfectants to kill the COVID 19 virus are:

Alcohol (Isopropyl alcohol or Ethyl alcohol): Products with at least 70% alcohol content are effective against the virus.
Hydrogen peroxide: This ingredient is known for its disinfecting properties, particularly when used at concentrations of around 3%.
Sodium hypochlorite (Bleach): Diluted household bleach solutions containing 1000-5000 ppm are effective disinfectants.

Granted, Trump definitely was not and likely still is not an expert on disinfectants. Why would he be? My guess is he has never personally disinfected anything in his life or cleaned up bodily fluids.

School nurses at the school district where I worked should be knowledgeable about disinfectants and killing viruses. They requested/insisted custodians clean up all bodily fluids with, (guess what?), bleach! Of course, this was not practical since most of the schools were carpeted. Bleach bleaches carpets just as it bleaches your clothes.

I mention this because even folks who are experienced with cleaning and disinfecting, think of bleach as the go to choice as a disinfectant. Not surprisingly, the general public also believe bleach is the best disinfectant. When Trump suggested injecting a disinfectant for COVID 19, many if not most people thought he was recommending bleach. In fact, when Trump stated at the press conference in April 2020, or almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs, and it does a tremendous number on the lungs “I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute. One minute. And is there a way we can do something like that, by injection inside. So, it would be interesting to check that.”

You repeated the falsehood that Trump told people to drink bleach.  Then claimed you didn't say that.  Then challenged me to find where you previously repeated that falsehood.  Which I did in about 30 seconds.   

You should be embarrassed if you care about making a fool of yourself by lying about something that is so easily disproved.  Leave that kind dishonesty to the other leftist knuckleheads.  You're better than that.

I agree with you. I think it would have been better if he had deferred to the experts on the topic. But people expect their president to speak directly about a pandemic, so that was never really going to happen.

This highlights one of Trump’s weaker qualities. He rarely sticks to a script and says off the wall things. Still, most people interpreted his comments the same way I did. That he was trying to reassure the public. He was essentially saying, “We know how to kill this virus outside the body, so maybe there’s a way to do something similar inside the body. We just need to figure that out to save lives.”

If hardcore Trump supporters truly hang on his every word the way critics claim, and if people had understood his words the way you are interpreting them, then we would have seen a noticeable spike in deaths or injuries from people injecting disinfectants. We didn’t.

I would agree that is what he meant, however, he is very inarticulate and has the vocabulary of a high schooler.

The problem with poor articulation is it opens  up comments to being polysemous and you can have wild interpretations. I think if you take it at face value you would have to say he just said maybe you can inject disinfectants- if you are reasoning what he intended- which I think is reasonable to do based on how wild the suggestion would be, is that he was doing exactly what you said.

However, the fact that deaths did not spike from it does not logically follow that others did not interpret it like that. There was immediate push back from lysol, health experts etc as they realized that at face value what he said was moronic. That could of mitigated the damage, we will never know.

The media often twists his words because of his inarticulate nature. When they said he admitted his sons were conducting insider trading I defended him on reddit as he clearly was attempting to say that it will be perceived as insider trading. Now, he is saying that because they are insider trading and he is trying to deflect but still.
