Was he out of breath just breathing?  Being that large and strong has to be kinda cool but again, the heart must surely suffer.
He was at a booth and seemed fine when talking.

When I was younger and the crazy trend was to be "300 in the off season" I thought I would give it a try. I got up into the high 280's and it truly became a horrible chore. I can't imagine what carrying around 400 lbs of bodyweight would be like.

That's why he's dead.

At 6' i got up to 270 for about a year when i was power lifting and felt terrible.

Getting in and out of my Mustang GT was a chore because it was so low to the ground.

I don't see how these guys handle walking around at 300+.

It must be miserable.

That's possible. I think he could have been 6'-2.5" or even 6'-3". But he was less than 6'-4".

Here's Jay next to Brian Shaw. Shaw gas very good forearm genetics.

Shaw does have good forearm genetics. I always liked the picture below of Shaw with Ed Coan.

Sorry, obsidian - I didn't mean to sound like I was correcting you on Greg's height. I was just saying - yes, you are right that he was 6'2"...but I think he was more like 6'2" and change, rather than Gunter, who was more like 6'1.5".

As you said, he may have even been 6'3".

EDIT: thanks to Skeletor for posting the picture:

I don't see see any picture but this one is impressive, look at the size of Coan's hands.

LOL!!

That reminds me of The Rock getting into the car in Pain and Gain - massive man and smallish car. The Rock may have been around 280 there too.

The scary thing is that at that time people referred to 300 lbs as the threshold to being ridiculously heavy. Nowadays you could walk through Walmart and find 10 - 15 people who weigh more than that.

Lol, I forgot to post that photo.

That's the one. I'm sure if Ed was ever studied that we would find out that he has various powerful genetics in areas beyond the completely obvious - his hand size being one of them. I don't think having mitts like that doesn't hurt his strength.

No problem. I'd be curious to see more comparisons of Kovacs next to other people to gauge his height.

The Rock is billed as 6'-5" but he is closer to 6'-2" or 6'-2.5". Chris Hemsworth is billed as 6'-3" and he has at least 1" over Dwayne Johnson in this photo. Hemsworth might be a smidge over 6'-3". His brother Liam might be around 6'-4".

How tall was kovacs really?

I’m six, even, and Greg was, without question, one or two inches more.

The man was a staggering size. And as many know, I’ve met most of the biggest, from all specific disciplines of the iron world.

I saw Kovacs walking down a hall at the Arnold Classic and he looked huge but not monstrous like Brian Shaw or Thor. He looked to be about the same height as me. Brian Shaw / Hafthor at their heaviest would make more of an impact because of their height. It would be interesting to see Big Show at his heaviest next to those two at their heaviest. Big Show at his peak was heavier and he has about 2-3" on Hafthor. But he never carried as much muscle as Brian or Thor.

I saw Orville Burke at the AC and he looked extremely wide and huge. This was before his illness.

Greg was quickly deteriorating the last decade or so of his life.

Kovacs was massive, and extremely strong, I think he could bench maybe 800 lbs

I wish he'd pick up 800lbs and drop it on your fucking head

Legendary post from anabolichalo:

“Brian Shaw is one of those insecure fat power farm boys who loves to out angle bodybuilders and pretend he's all muscle and not a mountain of animal lard.

Scrawny frustrated losers (who for some reason associate more with lardoes than ripped jacked mofos; probably because they think the fatties are "natty"), and fat homos will look at this pic and consider it somehow a victory for TEAM FAT but I see it differently

-retired jay cutler laid back not even flexing
-two fat fucks "who dont care about appearance" standing way closer to the camera doing "thumbs up poses", to out angle the bodybuilder
-fat fucks think "we running this shit now, we the best"
-cutler thinking "omg these guys are so fucking fat and delusional lol"

Remember when MuscleMag International was just a giant MuscleTech add? They had Kovacs propped up like he was going to dominate pro bb. Making up bs about his lifts. 500lbs bnp press for 10. 700lb inclines for reps
