And I was just listening to a pretty depressing programme about the danger of unexploded ordnance in Laos.  Awful business - it apparently takes a massive toll on the poor unsuspecting souls working in the fields, and children playing...

The thing is, one of the ethnic groups in the area are the 'Hmong'  But the H doesn't really come across on speech radio... so I've accidentally LOL'ed a couple of times really inappropriately...

Centuries ago when I did door work, I worked with a really wide range of people - powerlifters, boxers, judo guys, karate guys, aikido guys, etc.  (hadn't really come across BJJ then)  While I always found the judo guys best to work with and enjoyed watching the look of surprise on people when they were skilfully manhandled to the floor/out the fire doors, there were 2 occasions where a boxer's explosive speed and power really saved the day - BOOM!

See the gentle way he laid him down?  One of my closest friends at that time had been a Junior UK Judo champion, and so for no real reason we found ourselves fucking around on the grass outside the gym one sunny day, and 3 of us took turns trying to grab hold of him...  to find ourselves gently laid on the grass each time - it was hilarious (and impressive) how easily he just folded us around despite our size

On a different note, the Aikido instructor I knew was a real prick - if you didn't rotate/dive into his moves he had no problem fucking your joints up.  That's why I look at those bullshit Seagal demos and understand exactly why they flick themselves around to prevent pain!

Full disclosure - I was at that time 6ft and around 250, so in the Tux with shoulder pads (oh brother) I guess I had the physical presence - but not really a fighter, just had a couple of wrist-locks and then I was in trouble if they didn't work!

Broke my nose a couple of times from catching wild drunken sucker punches, but never knocked out, so there's that
