TEN YEARS at 24-Hour Fitness...and it's been a blast!!
« on: April 30, 2023, 06:19:41 PM »
I got my first gym membership for Christmas in 1991 at Bally Total Fitness, which I kept for nearly 21 years....until they went bankrupt.

When I moved to Kansas City, I needed a new place to train. So, in April of 2013, I found 24-Hour Fitness in downtown KC. I trained there for a while, because it was near my job. Later I switched to the one in Independence, MO, which was closer to my house. I wanted to join a nationwide franchise, so I could train anywhere, especially if I had to move.

Well, when I moved back to Orlando, FL, there was one 24-Hour Fitness club at the time in downtown Orlando. Since there, several more popped up before the pandemic. Now there are five of them left in the Orlando area.

Hopefully, this chain will remain in existence for least another decade, so I can continue to hit the iron (be it regular or rubber-coated iron ;D ).

I trained at the same LA Fitness in Houston for 13 years.

It's still there.

Was one of the better commercial gyms.

I actually wanted to join LA Fitness at first. I got a guest pass to one in Orlando once. The place was so clean, you could eat off the equipment. The Olympic bars were shiny so you could see your reflection. All the plates were jet-black, as were the dumbbells which went to 160 lbs.

The leather on the benches had the new-car (or new-gym) smell. Had there been an LA Fitness in KC at the time, I might have gone there.

The 24-Hour Fitness in Independence was almost as immaculate. So, I was a happy camper there.

Yeah, this LA Fitness i went to was super clean and well equipped.

It wasn't the standard layout either, it was built in an old mall and was larger.

All the cardio stuff was upstairs, including the fitness rooms and racquet ball courts.

It had like 6 squat racks and the free weight area was off by itself.

Enjoyed working out there but it would get really crowded during peak hours.

I have been going to my 24 hour fitness for over 25 years. Only 11 per month all time. Feels like home to me. I also go to a new golds gym near by, brand new, so clean and new, it’s only 20 dollars a month. But there are so many young kids there, taking videos, looking at their cell phones, it’s kind of sucks a bit. So i go to golds about twice a week, and keep going back to my 24 fitness

BUT, the 24 hour fitness is kind of nasty. Dirty, bathroom is in terrible shape, stinks like piss. Equitment has never been upgraded, ect. But it’s close to my house, and costco and costco gas is right around the corner, so going there does come in handy.

True story- one of the 45 pound bars was bent, to me it was very dangerous, if you went heavy benching, fucker would roll in your hands. After telling the front desk about 4 times, the next time i went to bench, the same bar was the bench. I got pissed off, took the bar to the front desk, asked for the manager, and put the bar on the managers desk, told him to demo this bar. I was pissed!!!!!!!!!!  Never saw the bar again.

For the whole year?

How did you get this plan?

I got grandfathered in, in the early 2000’s I paid 550 dollars up front, which covered 3 years of membership, and additional 2 for free, after the whole 5 years my renewal for the entire year was 19.95 before taxes, so 21.64 total. Best deal ever

I still go to different gyms like destination dallas here and there but sometimes I just want to avoid all the meatheads there sitting around eating chicken breasts in their Tupperware in between sets

That’s awesome! I pay $20 a month for LA Fitness and I thought that was a good deal…

Some places, including 24-Hour Fitness offer rates that low ($9.99/month + tax), under the condition that you only use the gym at a particular gym at certain times.
