Looking forward to this.

HBO are trying to go down the quality not quantity route. So hopefully it won't disappoint.

Not so certain about this one.  I  didn't watch "The Joker" with Joaquin "Herr Lipp" Phoenix and I am not likely to watch "The 5%er"...Oooops!..."The Piana"...DAMMIT!  I mean "The Penquin" film.  It just makes no sense to me as I am not interested in comic book criminals as the main character in a film.

Joker is misery porn with obvious references/parallels with Taxi Driver and the King of Comedy

The movie is good ( mostly because of Joaquin's performance & because 100% of the other projects the Joos shot in recent years are cookie-cutter steaming piles of shit - Joker feels different and creative because of that )

And a movie about people snapping and rioting because life is shit and oppressive ; released during covid lockdowns ?
$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Wait til Joker : Folie ā Deux hits the screens ( a musical sequel with Joaquin returning as the Joker and Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn )

As for the Penguin, I couldnt give 2 shits. I cant stand Robert Fagginson's Batman.

Bruce Wayne is not supposed to look like a heroin junkie dressed like the Mother-Fucker from Kick-Ass 2

This is a HBO series not a movie. There is a lot on the line for them with this.

I liked the movie, might watch this. Is Batman appearing? There are many shows centered about Gotham and other characters, but Batman never appears for copyright reasons, they can't even say his name, lol.

The Penguin is a very good little series. I'm very finicky about about "cape shit". I don't like when things get too comic booky, The Penguin didn't feel like that, it feels more like a good noir mob series with a little fantasy thrown in. 8/10 or so.

He does a kind of Tony Soprano imitation at times. It looked a bit plastic to me.

I will watch, heard it's pretty good.

I will also share some shows I've seen recently that did not get much fanfare:

MGM+

Rogue Heroes - loved this.  Guy Ritchie type humor, about the formation of the SAS in WW2.  Only 6 episodes, Season 2 on it's way.  High rating.

Condor: Based on 6 days of the Condor.  Good show.  2 seasons.  Enjoyable.

From: By those who wrote Lost.  First episode very good, rest of season one is decent.  Seasons two and three get progressively worse. Only watching to see how it ends or (hopefully) ties all this apparently random shit.

Apple TV

Slow Horses - this show got progressively better, especially as the backstory unrolls - liked a lot.

Paramount +

Started Landman - one episode in - too early to tell.  Daughter, the Mom, and the coffee girl are all hot.

I have been told Lioness is good too, but will hold, since Severance is going to start again.

Hulu:

The Old man (Season 2):  Lost interest and stopped.  Meh.

For Ironat - you can do free trials and blast out most of these.  I got MGM+ for two months at for 99 cents.

The Batman was the preamble to the Penguin series.  Watched the Penguin series 1st.  It was my favorite series that I watched last year.  Then I watched The Batman.  Long movie, maybe a little slow out of the gate but very good finish.

The 1st Joker movie with Phoenix was the 1st Batman-esque movie I watched since the 2nd Michael Keaton Batman movie.  I thought it was outstanding.  I've recently watched the Joker sequel and in my opinion the harsh reviews were uncalled for.  I enjoyed it as well.
