That's the way.
You need to do barbell rows also to thicken your back. Do 3 work sets of 8-12.
The back is not an issue. In fact the upper body is not an issue. I have more than enough upper body muscle to win my class.
It all really just comes down to legs. Can I get my legs presentable enough to hold their own. Upper body I am not going to be out massed by anyone in my class. There is nothing I can do about the pec prior other than not flexing it hard on stage. But will have it fixed by next summer season.
Legs will be better next summer after a year of having a squat rack inside. But upper body is more than ready right now for my class.
Honestly I may prefer to wait until I have had a year to make improvements but I think I would do ok this year. I may go for the exp again depends on a lot of things but I am in shape.
