It's not clear from the article what type of gloves will be used:
"Big Francis Ngannou is here today," Fury said at the time. "He's on my hit list in an exhibition fight, however he wants it: in a cage, in a boxing ring, boxing gloves, UFC gloves, we can make it happen. I think everyone wants to see it. He's a monster of a guy, I'm a monster of a guy, so it will be a clash of the titans for sure."
https://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/story/_/id/37993829/tyson-fury-francis-ngannou-fight-set-oct-28Georges St-Pierre said that using UFC gloves [4-6 oz], as opposed to 10+ oz boxing gloves would change even a pure boxing match [punching only], and tilt the advantage to the MMA fighter, because it allows the MMA fighter to dirty box in the clinch.
I can't recall 100%...but GSP may have said that McGregor would have beaten Mayweather in MMA gloves. Or at least...McGregor would have been closer to winning. St-Pierre DID say the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight wouldn't have lasted 60 seconds if it was an MMA fight in the cage under UFC rules.
As for Tyson Fury saying he would fight Francis Ngannou anywhere, under any rules, and making it sound like he has a chance against Ngannou in anything but pure boxing - he is being disingenuous.
Tyson Fury could beat Francis Ngannou pretty handily in a boxing match. I have no doubt about that.
I'm not sure how the fight would change with UFC/MMA [lighter/smaller] gloves, but I'm sure that Ngannou would gain a bit of an advantage over a boxing match using standard boxing gloves.
But I don't know who would win once you make that change.
I will say again: I have no doubt that Tyson Fury would win in a pure boxing match with boxing gloves under normal boxing rules against Ngannou. But Tyson claiming he could come close in an MMA fight is disingenuous.
Fury is wrong - if not outright lying.
