The dude's lower limbs are too LONG for that kind of DL setup : hips too high + firing too early.

It puts an enormous and unecessary amount of pressure on the lower back.

He should rethink his setup, open his hips and externally rotate his legs ( knees and feet pointing out. ) That way, he could lower his hips down and bring them closer to the bar.

His starting position should approximatively look like this one ( minus the weightlifting shoes and w/ shoulders over the bar  ) :

If you care for your spine, wear Weider Power Bracelets when deadlifting heavy. On both wrists, that's where a lot of people go wrong.

When they say don’t step on a crack they are being serious.

We’ll, I guess it wasn’t his Mom’s back though.

Is heavy deadlifting even worth it for bodybuilding? Most people, me included, end up ego lifting and getting injured.

There is zero reason to deadlift heavy off the floor.

Zero.

And this is coming from a former powerlifter.

Bob chicerillo recommends never to deadlift, barbell bench press or barbell squat

If I had to stop deadlifting I would stop going to the gym alltogether. I'm not going to rationalise it, well I'm itching to lol... I'll just say deadlifts can be injury preventative for many people, not all. Mainly the back, I've hurt most of my body but not my back and I've seen others who have seemingly very sturdy, injury resistant backs which I think is from deadlifts. Conversely I've seen so many with weak and fragile backs who never deadlifted, always tweaking their backs squatting or rowing. But whatever, everyone should decide for themselves, I know I'm biased too because I love the movement. For me deadlifts is life itself, Jon Pall was right.
First thing I did to recover from my near death Covid debacle was deadlift - with a set of 4 with 135lbs to failure with a guy in the back catching me when I almost passed out and carrying me to a bench each set. Couple of months later I was back over 700. This probably sounds crazy but ALL I did was deadlift for months lol. That's how much I love it.

You should probably lift with a straight back but otoh some or many adapt to a somewhat rounded back style. There are two camps in this, "the body adapts to all movements" and "the spine should never flex" (though the back will always flex a little no matter what, even through everyday movements).

Back when I was powerlifting I saw some deadlifts that left me wondering how they didn’t break their back. Some people get very sloppy on this exercise

What bone(s) could he have broken?  Seems more likely a disc issue.

When you are young do your single reps max with the deadlift. Deadlifting has prevented more back injuries than it has caused. When you're old never go singles.  Doing four to six reps is a sweet spot for me in my sixties. I find as I age that injury preventions is a serious consideration.

Good form or not, you’re rolling the dice when you’re lifting 700+ lbs.  that was probably 3x his bodyweight

Never seen an acute back injury like that from lifting though  :o

New age of Gymtard and Social-Media is responsible for tons of tears/injuries.
Selfie-rings, torn-up physiques, posers, wanna-bees... (Curlers).

The greats back in the day didnt get hurt deadlifting, they knew what they were doing.
