This song is a great career move by Aldean as was his move from Macon Georgia to a small town in Tennessee

You make a good point. In the music industry, off-media channels are equally important money makers these days. There is still some definite risk having advertisers shun you. Time will tell. The guy is a powerhouse.

I love the song’s meaning but it is totally about blacks.  The lyrics below are not referring to white people.  Mentioning how his grandad wants to “round them up”  is short for saying “round up those joggers”. That’s okay though.  He is writing his songs for a certain demographic. It’s no different than rappers who sing about shooting shit up and fucking white women. They are writing their songs for their own demographic.   If you don’t like it then don’t listen to it but this banning bullshit is lame and against our constitutional rights.

Sucker punch somebody on a sidewalk
Carjack an old lady at a red light
Pull a gun on the owner of a liquor store
Ya think it's cool, well, act a fool if ya like
Cuss out a cop, spit in his face
Stomp on the flag and light it up
Yeah, ya think you're tough
Well, try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town
Got a gun that my granddad gave me
They say one day they're gonna round up
Well, that shit might fly in the city, good luck
Try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't
Try that in a small town
Full of good ol' boys, raised up right
If you're looking for a fight
Try that in a small town
Try that in a small town
Try that in a small town
See how far ya make it down the road
Around here, we take care of our own
You cross that line, it won't take long
For you to find out, I recommend you don't

Yes, no one (I hope) would argue that he has no right to write the song (Amendment 1). But the same goes for advertisers and corporate media: they have every right to play it or not play it. No government should say yes or no to that. And we as individuals have every right to make our personal minds up as to whether it offends or not, regardless of the feelings of the “demographic” (be it rap celebrating guns and drugs which offends many of us or lyrics that demonstrate outright bigotry toward Blacks, also offensive).

I think “round up” refers to guns, seeing as how it comes after the line where he mentions the gun his granddad gave him.  Otherwise I agree with your post, I don’t care for the song and find the themes distasteful but the censorship is not the proper response.  If anything, it’s backfiring seeing how it is drawing attention to the song.

“backfiring” cuts both ways here. Interesting to hear how his managers and record label see it. Maybe all for him or maybe shaking in their boots.

The more the left hates it the higher it gets on the charts…#1 on iTunes. It’s like gun control. The more they threaten your gun rights, the more guns get sold

Remember Garth did a song after the Rodney King beat down and refused to sing at the Super Bowl unless he could also sing that song after he sang the National Anthem.

Not sure what’s wrong with that small town song, at first it sucks then it gets better.

Round em’ up. Would have been funny if he threw in a line about his grandad also giving him a rope. Lmao

I see the song as a reflection of what most people think considering BLM/Antifa are mostly white and paid to destroy buildings. That being said the racist accusations don’t fly.

Stop being a drama queen

Really, this is a discussion and I'm pointing out CLEAR FACTS.   He's had a history or racist activities such as the blackface and making racist remarks and its been for the most part swept under the table.   The song has been out since May and didn't much attention.  No-one cared about the song until he make a video about.  He and his handlers had to know about producing a video at a courthouse where a black guy was hanged from the balcony of the courthouse.   In fact, they specifically chose that place for the intended purpose especially when there a ton of courthouses in small towns between Nasheville and Cleveland that he could have filmed the video...some that could have used a little business revenue to boost up the town's profile

Be serious for once, he made that on purpose for selling records and to cash in on the "woke" controversy and he's doing it.  He's No. 1 on the billboard, politicans are using it for electoral purposes...he got exactly what he wanted.  The problem is that like Bud Light, its horrible marketing.   The song may be removed from places like Spotify and Youtube eventually due to promoting violence.

Considering that he's from Macon, GA which has a population of over 150k people and lives in Nasheville with a population of over 700k, he doesn't know shit about small town living and has never lived in one before.  I lived in Sylva NC for 9 years with a population of 2500 people and currently live in Piedmont where there is about 5000 people so I know about living in a small town and everything he sung about just isn't close to being true.  Sylva has had few protests over there and nobody went and beat the shit out of them or shot them and there wasn't any rioting or busted windows.

Aldean is a fucking clown who made a video that would get attention and record sales...nothing more.
