I don’t see him in there for the rest of his life. Remember, Keith Ellison is the Minnesota AG, the one that was the instigator of the George Floyd riots around the country.
His release wouldn’t be up to Keith Ellison, it would be at the discretion of the mental health professionals caring for him.
Ultimately, the man was tried by a jury of his peers and that jury determined that he was not guilty by reason of insanity. It’s not the decision of the AG, or the prosecutor, or the judge, or any psychiatrist, etc. The decision to find this man not guilty by reason of insanity was made by a jury of his peers. We don’t know what evidence or testimony they heard, but clearly all 12 members of that jury felt it compelling enough to reach their unanimous verdict.
