Hey Folks,
Thought I'll share my story:
2020 Feb (at 35 yo) got covid. Recovered in 8 days.
2021 April - May : received two Pfizer covid vaccines.
2021 Aug: Flight to Europe for 2 weeks and back to US
2021 Sep: felt sharp pain on my lower leg/shins - ignored it, thinking it is related to my old sprained ankle and it will get better soon (did not listen for wife’s advice to go see the doc till late Oct. was limping).
2021 Oct-Dec: things don't get better, after few visits to docs finally do an ultrasound, left leg is pretty badly swollen by this time, using a walker boot and crutches (still don’t take it seriously as true getbigger).
2021 Dec: ultrasound shows multiple blood clots starting from calf all the way up to my pelvis (belly button level). Go to ER, doctors put me on blood thinners and perform thrombactomy. Official diagnosis:
“May-Thurner syndrome is a rare vascular disorder in which an artery compresses a vein in your pelvis. This compression can cause symptoms in your left or right leg and foot and may lead to blood clots.”
Now, it was minor intervention and they cleaned up my vein, and inserted a 2x15cm stent to expand the vein which was compressed by the artery.
With that said idk what caused it, no one in my family has a history of blood clots… Yes, it could have been May-Thurner, or could have been vaccines or even covid itself - who knows. I recovered quick and was back on my feet and into the gym/swimming in one week. I now have to wear a compression stocking on my left leg (calf) to increase/improve the blood flow.
Whole thing was ~$120k

I have great insurance which covered a new negotiated rate almost fully

Stay safe and stay active… watch your diet… do yearly checkups, LISTEN TO YOUR WIFE! Go see a doctor.
Cheers!
