Yes, 100% agreed.  Turned pro in 1982 and just two years later started a dominant 8 year reign as Mr O.  Retired at his peak, too, and never looked back.  His post-bodybuilding lifestyle just clinches it.

Does anyone have more insight as to why he didn’t win the 1983 Mr O?  Looking at this photo, it seemed like Bannout had better arms and better conditioning overall

He only sucked Joes cock the Summer of 84

Was never a fan of his biceps no peaks

His arms were definitely the weak point size wise but they were so detailed that they were still impressive

Lee was a great bodybuilder.  His arms always looked small for his huge body.

Nick isn't pretty but I just commented on this "before" picture elsewhere. The genetics were hidden. He looked absolutely horrible with shit genetics for anything related to bb. It is an amazing and imo unlikely transformation. I mean it's hard to believe.

It was the same thing with Justin Compton. He was better than Nick but didn’t look like anything  that wasn’t a dime a dozen in Gyms everywhere.

Lee seems like a good southern gentleman. Once he retired, he put the crazy pro bbing lifestyle behind him and still looks good today.

I met him a couple years ago.  An absolute gentleman.  I was able to thank him for the profound impact he had on my life.  As a youngster I was watching a clip of him on lifting (forget the name of the show), but he said he never had a training injury.  Always used perfect form.  I vowed that I would do the same thing.  And despite being a gym rat my entire life, I've never had a training injury.  I credit Lee Haney.  Very cool to be able to tell him that story.

You’ve either got it or you don’t. Check out Nick Walker at 18-19 and compare it to these guys

Horrible shape and structure, short, stubby,  small cock

His genetics are in his response to the drugs and being able to handle massive dosages so far…..

"Stimulate, don't annihilate" was great advice. Many other bodybuilders who suffered injuries should have taken it.

My friend who is a competitor has never had an injury as such. He is over 40. He trains hard, good form but does go heavy too. Like 180lbs barbell curls which to me is heavy as shit. He's trained as long as I have but all he's had is achy joints, nothings torn or really worn out. I think some luck and some genes play a role. Then you have some weak as shit lifters with all sorts of problems.

My body is torn to shreds but I don't have some common problems either, like never had knee problems. Seems like every serious lifter has had serious knee pain. Bad shoulders must be the most common problem for lifters no?

I'm in the gym six days a week (only train each body part once a week).  Squats and deadlifts every week.  I have zero joint pain.  Although I do take glucosamine and chondroitin, which definitely helps.

I agree shoulder problems are very common.

This. It might not sound "hardcore" when you're young but the older you get the more you realize how lucky you are if you have no injuries.

It is even better advice for older lifters. When I was younger and trained "hardcore" I felt much more worn out than today and my joints used to hurt all the time. Now, none of that.

Yes but when I was young hardcore training was attractive exactly because it was hard. Teenage angst plus natural testosterone played a big role. Never trained as hard as at about 15 years old seriously.  :D

Sort of goung through the motions is not very inspiring. Even now "heavy" training gets the blood rushing and brings a type of mental clarity after. My training partners are about 60 and it's amazing how their mood changes if they get to lift heavy and hard, like the old days.

As long as your cock still works and is firing at any given time, that’s all that matters, not training hard, no one cares about that

Teenage Mr. America Lee Haney had a great physique.  However, I think Doug Stadele should have won the tall class and overall.  Doug Stadele was outstanding at the 1979 Teenage Mr. America.  But, that is how judging goes sometimes. Two great teenage physiques and Lee Haney got the top spot.

Him Dorian and Arnold have the best win loss records in the history of bodybuilding

About Haney's early years - I wonder what Andy Lopedote could have done if he continued to compete.

World Gym had a great shot of Lee standing ’relaxed’. Lee looked great from the back.
