Ron Harris - Physique Discussion.
« on: August 06, 2023, 07:12:52 AM »
I think it was always hard for me to assess Ron's physique neutrally, because he is in an industry surrounded by mass monsters. GH15 said that Ron had the worst PED response in bodybuilding history and/or used a tremendous lot.

I'm not sure who furnished him with that information.

I suppose Ron's results do depend on how much gear he is using. If he is using IFBB pro level stacks, then yes, he is small.

If he's using sort of normal gym rat cycles, then I'd have to say - he is pretty massive. He is 5'8.5" and...I think around 210-lb or so, in contest?

It also looks like he was around 187-lb in contest shape, around age 22 or so. That's pretty big by just about anything other than IFBB pro standards.

His legs are also enormous.

Specifically why might I have been misjudged his physique? Was I just comparing him to pros? Are his arms a bit short/small for his overall size? Is his waist a bit wide?

I think it's that his arms are basically dwarfed by his legs? Is that just because he has a short wingspan [under 70"]?

Somehow, something looked small, yet reviewing his pics carefully...he is pretty big. I think it's his arms? Meanwhile, he has IFBB pro sized legs.

He doesn't post many back shots, leading me to believe he thinks his back is not good, but IMO, his back is pretty big.

It's just the arms that are too small for his physique, right?

Discuss.

Just lacks the muscle insertions for a top bodybuilder.

Certainly he looked impressive in the gym next to average people.

The arms are/were his worst feature it the above. Also there isn't any wow factor to his look, that isn't an insult, it's what happens to most guys, they simply look like guys that train seriously on stage vs the ones that draw your eye.

Yeah I think his chest/back took the brunt of the load in compound movements and he never learned to isolate & stimulate his lagging muscles

^ Even his "weak" arms must be 18" or more.

I was looking at Ron's photos and realized how massive he is compared to me. He would be huge in any normal gym. I think I was comparing him to the IFBB giants he was writing about.

My arms are a little over 16" in that photo [they are not pumped], and Ron must have at least 2" on mine.

When I saw him at the airport leaving an expo, in off-season mode, I think his arms may have been over 19".

I think he has a short wingspan/reach, so because of that, even 19" arms can look "small".

And his legs are massive.

Even if Ron's arms are not 19", I would say they MUST be 18" or more...

Put Brian Hankins next to Ron Harris and then compare, then put Melvin there and let them both say the N-word and see how Goodrum reacts

How much sleep did you lose over it?

For me - a month.

He was trashed quite a bit on here back in the day...but the dude looks good.

Out of curiosity, did Ron ever get an IFBB pro card?

I always thought maybe he'd win a 50+ Master's contest...especially with all these new divisions.

I had a friend compete in a local show a couple years back, Ron showed up.
Sat near him and talked for a little while, very easy going guy, seemed pretty cool and laid back...
Looked to be in very good shape, but not overly big...

There are literally thousands of us (yes me) with average or below average bodybuilding genetics .... that doesn't stop the love we have for it ..., but that's not going to get us far competition wise .... gyms are filled with them! ... what's to discuss?

I'm actually starting to wonder if his face made me misjudge his physique.

Look at this photo of Branch Warren from 2001. Now put the face of Bob Paris or Dennis Newman on this physique, and you realize how aesthetic his physique actually is.

Likewise, if you just look at Ron's physique, I feel you can see how in-shape he is. Ron's face doesn't "match" his physique in this respect.

Unfortunately in my case, it's not even close.

I feel like the only muscle group where I had potential for a lot of development is my delts. Look at my biceps in that shot I posted - they are both flat AND short. Whereas Kevin Levrone and Sergio Oliva had flat but LONG biceps, and Albert Beckles had short but PEAKED biceps, mine have no such peaks.

In fact, I'm not sure if I would have ever trained had I known I had these deficits.

17 inches, maybe.

Yes, you are Canadian you know what this is.

Ron has gotten a lot of flak on here before. He's gotten a lot of negative comments, and when I saw one of his Instagram posts, I realized just how good he is.

It made me wonder: why were people bashing him? Were they comparing Ron to top IFBB pros?

In a vacuum, surely Ron's physique is quite good. Compared to many normal lifters or even juicers, Ron is very good.

In what world does he have a bad physique?

IMO, those being critical were comparing him to pros, sort of by association.

Also, his arms are small for his legs, which I think people notice. I think those were the reasons Ron was criticized.

Here's my thought process for including my picture, webstar:

I was just looking at his pictures, and realized he is leaps and bounds ahead of me in everything. I was like...I must have misjudged his physique. Ron's physique is not "attainable" for most people. His legs are ahead of probably 99.99% of men.

That's 1 in 10,000.

There are 54,000 males in my city. Do I think five men here have better legs than Ron?

Yeah...maybe.

So that's top 0.01% [better than 99.99%].

I honestly think that Ron's arms being small for his overall size made me sort of overlook his whole physique.

Ron is definitely a good competitive bodybuilder. I'm sort of surprised he hasn't picked up an IFBB pro card yet.

Ron is good. Certainly way better than I could ever be. I think if he had bigger arms, he could have turned pro.

Let's say we just saw Ron's legs in isolation...IMO, those are IFBB pro sized legs. It seems like his arms and...maybe his back?...are a bit light, but otherwise does have a pro level physique.

Funny that for as serious a competitor as Ron is, and given his arms are a weak point, I don't think he ever used Synthol. Nasser said that Synthol was as common as toilet paper among pros.
