    Was a great magazine. Up until they went "all natural".  I have all them up to then. i threw the all natural ones away. Infact I bought them only for a short time after they switched because i was hoping they would go back to their old format.  I remember in one Mike Methhead said after seeing that picture of him fat etc he has gotten back into shape and would be available for exhibitions again etc.  LMAO.  He never got back in shape.

Buying HMB just about bankrupted me...early 20s.

Ha! It was better than the rest, but these early years have some awful stuff too. Way closer to common mag with some drug talk thrown in. The worse is that Scott Connelly was in with them, so lots of articles have plugs for using 2-6 Met-Rx packets a day, etc....

TC Luoma being the author makes lots of sense, he was churning out the same kind of schlock for T-Nation in the early 2000s.  Of course, as a teenager i read that stuff daily and believed every word

Bought a subscription a few months before the 1st issue. Couldn't wait for the mag to arrive. It was so cutting edge at the time.

It really was a fun mag. Then of course it went more into Fitness/mainstream and lost its edge...
But for a while, it was excellent... Then some decent hardcore newsletters took over, I used to get Dante's, etc... (Hardcore Muscle).

But I think he only put out a dozen of those..

I seem to remember that Momo's girlfriend mentioned in the article was 15 or 16 years old. Most today would consider that pedophilia. It's not strictly speaning but most agree that it's inappropriate and immoral.

The Duchaine interviews: they said "some bodybuilders use 1000mg of steroids a week,  some do 2000mg!" Today standard is like 1500mg of just the testosterone base for a national competitor, 3-4 grams total for the big guys.

Momo died due to diuretics, and probably more precisely because the doctor assumed he was hypokalemic and gave him potassium. This was and is Milos' opinion and he was there too. He should have been given insulin instead. But what's impressive is that not that many bodybuilders have died from them since then, and we know how stupid bodybuilders can be. So they learned to use them without dying.

Dan warns against "speed." But according to his friends Dan was on Nubain and 100mg of Valium a day when he went to jail cold turkeying. If you've used benzos you know 100mg is a ton and withdrawal can be deadly. Dan had a stroke in prison. Romano said Dan once told him to hold out his arm while Dan shot him up with Nubain, without telling him what it was. Crazy guy but very entertaining imo.

I think the magazine was a cynical vehicle to make money from the start. But most felt betrayed when they switched gears. I did too lol.
