Here's an Ethiopia's mud hut getting wired and equipped with solar power.  Its not pretty but its a start.  This was 8 years ago and the amount of huts getting solar has blown up to where practically everyone has solar.   In fact, some of the hut are wired together and only one or 2 panels are used.   They can charge up a cell phone and check the prices in the market for trading cattle and other animals along with being able to have lights to protect their livestock.  They are also getting things like hand crank radios to listen to the news and shit
